The Choice
Review: Anbau's debut on Bordello with a Giro d'Italia themed EP pays homage to the legendary riders of the race, notably the late Marco Pantani. Coinciding with the 108th edition of La Corsa Rosa, celebrates Pantani's iconic victory at Passo del Mortirolo in 1994. Inspired by disco and nu-disco, the tracks exude energy and rhythm reminiscent of the exhilarating atmosphere of the race. Each copy includes a limited edition sleeve adorned with a rare original Merlin collector's sticker from the 78th Giro in 1995, adding a unique touch to the release. With its blend of disco house and Italo disco, Anbau's EP is a vibrant tribute to the passion and determination of Giro d'Italia's heroic riders.

Special Friend (feat Play Paul) (4:23)
Rhythm 55 (4:43)

Space Jowblob (3:46)
Review: Fresh from a debut EP on My Robot Friend that featured collaborations with Chicks On Speed, Captain Mustache pitches up on Bordello A Parigi for the very first time. It's a great collection of tracks all told, with Play Paul collaboration "Special Friend" in particular offering a pitch-perfect blend of body-popping electro beats, thrusting analogue bass and Mascara-clad, wave-style lead vocals. "Rhythm 55" is a brilliant blend of spacey lead lines, squelchy bass and relaxed electro beats, while "Jean-Michel" doffs a cap to the great Mr Jarre via bold synthesizer melodies, spacey chords and bustling beats. Cheery closing cut "Space Jowblob", a wonderfully lo-fi affair full of 8-bit melodies and druggy bass, is also top-notch.

Jupiter Jack (Jupiter mix) (5:17)
Review: Since making his bow as Donald Dust six years ago, Tom Banks has codified a signature sound rich in jacking, Ron Hardy style drum tracks, surging Italo-disco melodies, late '80s European house sounds and 21st century nu-Italo tropes. All these ingredients - and more - can be heard on his latest EP for Bordello a Parigi. Opener 'Nausea', for example, audibly doffs a cap to Koto and Bobby Orlando, while the more percussive, sweat-soaked 'Sick Your Own' remix of the same track provides an energetic, peak-time ready alternative. There are two mixes, too, of 'Jupiter Jack': the new beat-meets-Italo-disco throb of the 'Groovy Mix' and the breathless mid-80s Chicago house flex of the 'Jupiter Mix'. Chiming, synth-pop-goes-electro number 'Noise in the Stairwell' completes a fine package.

Review: Bordello is back with a new compilation series: Diamonds In The Night. An homage to the hours of darkness (and the great composer who went by the name of Felli - R.I.P.). From ecstatic peak time dance floor action to erotic euphoria and its more edgy after hours just before dawn. For the first volume we've selected four fine diamonds by The Hacker and Voiron from France, Armonics from Italy and Discobeton from Bulgaria.

Through darkness diamonds spread their richest light...

Maybe (vocapella)
Review: Under The Hasbeens name, Dutch pair Alden Tyrell and Jeroen 'DJ Overdose' Warmenhoven have been collaborating on an intermittent basis since 2006 which is entirely understandable given the respective various projects they both currently have on the go. Maybe is the duo's first release together since I Fall to Pieces and You & Me from 2009, and a welcome debut on the always great Bordello A Parigi label. Whilst previous material from The Hasbeens has, er, been characterised by shifts between restraint and full on Italo cheese, this new release is Tyrell and Overdose on a leaner, more club focused tip. Vocodered vocals, Skatt Brothers style basslines and fast paced techno drums never sounded so good!

Review: On his second Bordello a Parigi outing, Minimal Rome boss Heinrich Dressel has opened up the doors to his "analogue forest" (that's not a euphemism, by the way) and has invited us to get "Lost in the Woodland". It's an invitation worth taking, because there's much to enjoy throughout. Rich in throbbing analogue synthesizers, pulsating cosmic grooves, John Carpenter style melodic themes, Nacho Patrol-esque Afro-chug and sparkling, deep space instrumental synth-pop, it's an album that gleefully sidesteps convention in pursuit of ear-catching electronic gold. It achieves that, of course, and then some. Hacking through electronic undergrowth has never been so much fun.

The House Of The Rising Synth (DJ Overdose Watch The City Burn remix)
Review: The prolific MinimalRome boss Valerio Lombardozzi dons his familiar Heinrich Dressel guise for a superlative debut record on Bordello A Parigi. With prior contributions from Skatebard, Model Man and Fred Ventura on the label overseen by Otto Kranen, Dressel is in fine company and The House Of The Rising Synth apparently "ushers you into an imaginary movie full of pain and misery". Consisting of three original Dressel productions, it's obviously a short imaginary movie, and typically for a Dressel release it's hard to pick out one highlight. A rich sense of the sinister ripples through the heart of each track, taking on overt tones on the lead title track and appearing in a more subtle manner going forth. The Model Man himself DJ Overdose is present on remix duties too, adding some tough electro vibes to "The House Of The Rising Synth".

Review: Bordello A Parigi is back with more of their sublime electro jams this time from Heinrich Dressel. The EP kicks off with 'Galatograd', a slow and steady jam with shimmering chords and lazy baselines. 'Eden Olympia' then picks up the pace a little with still skill drums and celestial keys that take you on a jaunt through the cosmos. 'Remoria' brings many layers of lush and futuristic synth work and timeless electro rhythms that are comforting and subtly celebratory and 'Mylos' shuts down this most lovely EP with another classy sound.

Nothing Lasts Forever (5:14)
Lords Of The Future (5:14)
Review: There's much to like about Lords of the Future's nostalgic brand of synth-heavy futurism, which blends sci-fi themes and star-gazing intent with nods to vintage dancefloor styles of the 1980s. They begin their debut outing with 'Subliminal Proximity', a glossy and shimmering shuffle through hard-wired Italo-disco territory complete with robotic vocoder vocals, before serving up a spot of ear-pleasing beatbox electro/vocal synth-pop fusion on the superb 'Consumer Logic'. Over on the B-side, 'Nothing Lasts Forever' joins the dots between 'Bladerunner'-era Vangelis and deep space Italo-disco, while 'Lords of the Future' sounds like a long-lost Bobby Orlando production from 1984.

Review: Martin Matiske was discovered by DJ Hell as something of a child prodigy already deeply immersed in the history and present moment of electro and synth-pop, and by 2012 he had already released his debut album Robotermusik. This release on Bordello A Parigi revives one of the tracks from that album, 'Dimension Phantasy', and gives it a standalone release with some interesting remixes. Captain Mustache does a fine job of threading extra arpeggio sparkle into the track without derailing it, while Play Paul turns the track into his own bombastic synth-pop anthem which appears in vocal and instrumental versions.

Review: If you, the modern record buying man, are seeking out some rough hewn electro to show you the path towards enlightenment - then look no further than Forever Strangers. The latest release from Model Man arrives replete with a run out groove inscription that states: "Showing the way for the modern man to become a model man". Amusing observations about the latest philosophical scribbling to occupy the run out groove aside, this is a rather tasty selection of tracks from Model Man aka Den Haag alumni DJ Overdose which slips noisily between austere electro, synth wave laboratory experiments, glistening ambience and cinematic excursions into vocoder heavy industrial epics. The latter is demonstrated on perhaps our favourite jam "How Do I Get You To Do?" Factor in the lovingly presented cover art and illustrated inner sleeve and you have one classy slice of left leaning music here.

Review:
Filippo Colonna Romano, aka Modula, is a diverse studio wizard who has forged his own unique sound based on a love of a disparate mix of genres. Italo, disco, house, funk and Balearic all colour his hugely characterful grooves as proven on this superbly slick and sleek new 12" from the good folks at Bordello A Parigi. A brief opener sets a nostalgic '80s synth tone while 'Party Crime' is a brilliantly clean bit of throwback boogie with a retro-future vocal to die for. Elsewhere is proto-electro deepness on 'The Anger' and rugged Afro-electro sounds on 'Malicumba' plus the sun-kissed topical of 'Looking At The Horizon'. This is a truly escapist listen.

Galactica (5:13)
Palermo Theme (DJ Overdose remix) (4:49)
Review: This 12" marks the debut of a new talent in the shape of the previously unheard Palermo Disco Squad. He's clearly a fan of the more macho end of 1980s Italo-disco - successfully revived by labels such as Klaxon, Creme and Clone over the years - as Palermo Theme features for distinctly macho, floor-friendly revivalist jams. Throughout, the beats are tough, the arpeggios heavy and the synthesizer melodies bold and sharp. Picking highlights is tricky, given the overall quality, though the title track and spacey "Galactica" probably make the greatest impact. DJ Overdose's ghetto-inspired Miami bass rework of the title track is pretty darn tasty, too.

Vacanze D'Estate (2:02)
Review: More than a few eyebrows were raised when Thomas Blanckaert - best known for the Belgian rave revivalism of his Innershades project - popped up on Bordello A Parigi last year under the Palermo Disco Squad alias. Like that EP - entitled Palermo Disco Theme - this follow-up explores a tuneful, ear-pleasing sound that draws influence from classic electro and Italo-disco. Undeniably analogue-rich and stylistically spot-on - all four tracks sound like they could have been made around 1984 - there's little to fault throughout. Highlights include the spacey pads, rising and falling melodies and gently pulsing arpeggio lines of "Sicilian Nights", the sticky, pitched-down chug of "Island Life", and the bubbly electro hustle of "Streets of Palermo".

Review: Dutch 'West Coast' sound pioneer Ruud Lekx has been serving up suitably dark, throbbing and wayward dancefloor jams since the mid 1990s, most frequently under the name familiar Rude 66 alias. On his latest full-length excursion - the long-serving producer's first for six years - the clandestine melodies, weirdo analogue synth sounds and horror movie soundtrack textures have been dialled up to eleven. That's no bad thing, because Lekx does it far better than most. For proof, check atmospheric chugger 'Magick Angels' Invocations', the acid-laced early morning beauty of 'Interpreting The Cards', the slow motion dark-Italo pulse of 'Victim Of Illusion', the swirling ambient darkness of 'The Demiurge and his Arcons', and the sub-bass-propelled headiness of 'The Chariot'.

The Quest (6:21)
Review: Neon lit Italo disco magic from Endrik Schroeder here on the ever reliable Bordello a Parigi imprint. The producer had two releases between 1997 - 2002 on Grenoble's Interface Label then resurfaced last year after an 18 year hiatus, If he keeps on with this quality, we're sure glad he's back! On the A side we have the pumping technicolor euphoria of 'Second Breath' awash in a glorious concoction of vintage synth sounds that you could imagine pumping your fist in the air to up at Panorama Bar. On the flip we have 'The Quest' hammering the message home, all adrenalised arpeggios, epic FM strings and 707 beats galore.

Review: Speakwave is a lesser-spotted alias from Frenchman Dynarec, who has been exploring the outer edges of electro on various superb labels for years. Here he builds on his famously melodic sound across a trio of cosmic cuts. 'Cartographic Venture' kicks off and is a ten-minute odyssey with cold melodies and tinny drums that have a retro-future feel. Distant vocals add an extra edge to 'Coming On Monday' which has wispy sci-fi lines darting about over more cold drums. 'Exposition To Revolution' closes out with an introspective feel but a widescreen sound that is clean and has lovely spiraling skyward melodies.

Review: You always know that any new 12" from Bordello A Parigi is going to come doused in electric synth work and bright melodies. Voodoos & Taboos do just that on this retro-future new outing, the Reversible Dream EP. The title cut races out of the blocks, awash with glassy pads and prickly percussive grooves, robot vocals and raw beats. 'Unconditional Love' rides on more lush arps, this time with a slightly more melancholic feel. 'Animae' is a stomping disco-house workout with angular beats and prying leads and 'Destino Lontano' closes out with a brilliantly psychedelic comedown sound perfect for after the rave.

Review: Zakmina is Lukas Zeringis, previously spotted on Futureboogie and Minimood, with his classy take on the modern tech house phenomenon. 'For U' sees the up and coming artist link up with Bordello A Parigi and go all-in on the trance tip. Playing out like it's peak time at Amnesia, the A-side is full of sentimental bombast which will keep that summer spirit running well into the winter months. On the B-side, 'Take Me Back' dishes out more of the melodic charm with a sly shot of electro in the rhythm section for good measure.
