Review: 1000 Ohm is a Belgian synth-pop/new wave duo that formed in 1981; the following year, their debut single 'A.G.N.E.S.' became a local hit, thanks to its prominent drum lines and a loyalty to the fun-loving melodic monotony endemic to the genre at the time. But despite their initial success, their second single 'Love In Motion' didn't come until 1984 on Clip Records; this disco cheerer-upper is as powerful and bold as it is relaxing and beach-worthy, straddling two distinct emotions through two distinct call-and-response lines. The B-side features an instrumental version of the same track, as well as a remix by the faux-anarchist duo Vanzetti & Sacco.

Review: Alden Tyrell dusts off his Italo guise for another synthetic sojourn into all things dramatic and cinematic. "Dance Of The Happy Shadows" sets the scene; a Vangelis-themed disco set 50 years in the future. "I Rarely Talk To Strangers" is a more introspective journey with a Moroderish arpeggio peppered with staccato cosmic chords. Both parts of "J Is For Jupiter" drive us towards the tunnel-end light. Overwhelmingly positive chords hit hard on the first part before a spiralling Terjeian hook drives the very final stretch.

Review: Francesco Strippoli (Armonica) returns to Bordello A Parigi, following up his first two wonderfully refreshing and true-to-form Italodance EPs for a third, 'Future Echoes'. Indeed, reinterpretations of classic sounds can function as messages from the future as well as versions of the past. With cuts like 'Floating On High', a bulbous, buzzing, repetitious enjoyment is heard overflowing from a single stylistic source, every element bursting forth from its root. Offbeat bass licks double up as forward-driving donks on the likes of 'Retrospectiva' and 'Music And Lights', while the slick, coruscating synth twangs on the title track make do with 16th note repetitions that evoke the ecstatic feeling of urban mobility, each step matching the feeling of climbing higher and higher.

Review: Having been friends and occasional studio collaborators for the best part of a decade, M>O/S Recordings main man Aroy Dee (real name Steve Brunsmann) and Marc Antonio Spaventi can usually be relied upon to bring the goods. While Brunsmann is of course better known for analogue-rich deep techno, his outings with Spaventi usually explore the pair's mutual love of throbbing, synthesiser-powered Italo-disco. That's certainly the case with 'Sorrow', a mascara-clad slab of raw, arpeggio-driven new wave/Italo-disco fusion that comes topped off by a particularly stylish, half-sung, half-spoken lead vocal. Heavier and more breathless dancefloor thrills are supplied by the accompanying 'Space Dub', where the track's pulsating groove is ratcheted up to 11 and periodically submerged in sparkling deep space synths.

Review: Italian artist Ricardo Baez brings his EBM influences to a new and dazzling post-disco EP on Bordello A Parigi that mixes up elector, new wave, synth pop and Italo. First up is dark disco dons Curses to remix 'On & On' and do so with rugged synth lines and jacked-up angular drums. The original is only subtly different and a touch smoother then 'Sfida Notturna' takes off on big stomping drums with bright synths and retro-future 80s feels ringing out proudly. 'Dietro L'Orizzonte' closes down with a more Balearic sound for the afters.

Review: Italian percussionist Massimo Pacciani produced his brilliant Italo ballad 'Face In The Night' in 1984. It was a big hit then and remains just as potent now with its loveable retro chords and nostalgic synth chords. Marzio himself was on guitar and the great vocals are from Riccardo Galardini. The beats are tinny drum machine sounds and those vocals are kitsch but cool. The whole thing soars and soars with cute marimba motifs and takes you to a better place. On the flip side is an edit that only subtly tweaks the original for more modern dance floors.

Review: Belgium's Ken Dutrieue isn't the most prolific of producers, butc he release some stomping electro-disco. This new EP for Bordello A Parigi is the perfect summer warmer, all hazy and dusty, with "Offshore" leading the line with a hissing percussion roll and wavy, dubbed-out melodies wrapped around the groove. "La Sirene Avec Des Dauphins" is a much slower Balearic excursion that makes for the perfect dusk companion and, on the flipside, "Reine Des Plages" delivers a fine '80s dance funk, while "La Maree" produces a tight, interlocked drum machine attack backed by a delicious nu-boogie kinda vibe. Review: Otto Kraanen's Bordello A Parigi label are on a roll right now, with no less than ten records issued since the turn of the year! One of those was the inauguration of the Riviera Disco series, overseen by Riviera Disco Club selector Julien Tavernier, which got off to a fine internationally flavoured start earlier this month with contributions from Disco Sigaretta, Dilemma and Sauroid founder DJ Gio MC-505. Volume two looks to be just as exotic in sound and international in flavour with Belgian producer Bijou sharing space with cuts from Dutch pair De Pin Up Club and Peet Need and Impresa Gottardo, the new collaboration between Ajello's Philippe Taverio and Jean Paul Lazarre. Review: Bordello a Parigi cordially invites us to enjoy a 'Buone Vacanze' ('happy holiday') in the first of a new series of multi-artist EPs packed full of sparkling, synth-heavy club cuts inspired by European electro-disco of the 1980s. Bizarro Universe steps up first with the thrusting sequenced bass, chiming melodies and bustling drum machine hits of revivalist Italo-disco number 'Acid Sunday', before GUMM opts for darker, sleazier, sequenced bass, bleeps reminiscent of the Flirts' 'Passion' and excitement-building breakdowns on 'Dance of Fortune'. Venice Arms doff a cap to both freestyle and the glossier end of dancefloor synth-pop on 'Cuore Nero', while 'Allore' by C/TRO is a more atmospheric, locked-in and pulsating slab of Bobby Orlando revivalism.

Review: Fresh from a debut EP on My Robot Friend that featured collaborations with Chicks On Speed, Captain Mustache pitches up on Bordello A Parigi for the very first time. It's a great collection of tracks all told, with Play Paul collaboration "Special Friend" in particular offering a pitch-perfect blend of body-popping electro beats, thrusting analogue bass and Mascara-clad, wave-style lead vocals. "Rhythm 55" is a brilliant blend of spacey lead lines, squelchy bass and relaxed electro beats, while "Jean-Michel" doffs a cap to the great Mr Jarre via bold synthesizer melodies, spacey chords and bustling beats. Cheery closing cut "Space Jowblob", a wonderfully lo-fi affair full of 8-bit melodies and druggy bass, is also top-notch.

Review: Bordello A Parigi continue their efforts to remain at the forefront of the Italo renaissance with a wondrous reissue of Casanova's "Tutti Quanti". Marking the steamy French italo ballad's 30th anniversary, this 10" reissue from the label features the original dynamic Club version as well as a previously unreleased radio edit as well as a Bordello A Parigi condom. Yep that's right. Harmonic, hooky and, at points, downright raunchy, "Tutti Quanti" is a bona fide Italo classic and a welcome addition to the collection of any new fan of the genre.

Review: Frankfurt based retrovert Stefan Haag aka Chinaski is usually more affiliated with the Live At Robert Johnson camp, but finds an equally fitting home here on Bordello a Parigi with his post-Italo exploits. All in all it's a very neon-lit affair on the Unschuld Der Sinne EP, the title track is ever evident of this with its glimmering, laser-ish synths and powerful "Axel F" style arpeggios. However "Surfin' Death" him pursue some more EBM style aesthetics that are currently in vogue. There's more of this style explored on the muscular neon-lit body music of "Ab In Die Ewigkeit which is reminiscent of Belgian legends Front 242.

Review: Napoli has long been home to some superb musicians and producers, with the Italian city's dance music pedigree beyond question. Of the current generation of Neapolitan producers, Daniel Monaco has yet to receive the hype and plaudits of contemporaries Nu Guinea and Mystic Jungle Tribe, but if this single is anything to go be he should. In its original mix form, 'Acid Maria' is simply stunning - a breathlessly sleazy, heavy and mind-mangling fusion of ragged, acid house style TB-303 acid lines, thrusting, Moroder-style electro-disco bass and shimmering but spooky, late-80s Italo-disco riffs. Curses give it a more orthodox Italo-disco-meets-Bobby Orlando Hi-NRG feel on their remixes, while the Younger The Me take is a creepy, trance-inducing techno treat.

Review: Fresh from his superb hook-up with Sauvage World on Roam Recordings - the brilliantly titled electro/nu-disco fusion of Paninari on Acid - Daniel Monaco makes his bow on Bordello a Parigi with a deliciously throbbing chunk of quirky Italo-disco revivalism. 'Tu Sei Piazza' is propelled forwards by a sequenced, arpeggio-style bassline and vintage drum machine beats, but it's what sits on top - tipsy trumpets, spy-funk guitar licks and FM synth lead lines - that makes the track such a vibrant bundle of fun. Arguably even better is the flipside Whodammy interpretation, which brilliantly re-imagines the track as a kaleidoscopic slab of mid-tempo, mid-80s boogie revivalism.

Review: Vibrant disco-tinged house music from Dutch newcomer Doctr. "Paradise Island" is the ultimate rainbow rave anthem played live and direct through a SNES. Crisp and pixelated, it's the theme tune to your 90s childhood dreams. "Tropique" retains the synth positivity while adding more of a jacking shuffle to the rhythm. Finally "Magic" plays the role of the end-of-night hands-up finale with big piano strikes, subtle harp strokes and humanised harmonic textures. The NHS might be on its knees but as long as there are sonic surgeons like Doctr, our collections will remain more than healthy.

Review: Since making his bow as Donald Dust six years ago, Tom Banks has codified a signature sound rich in jacking, Ron Hardy style drum tracks, surging Italo-disco melodies, late '80s European house sounds and 21st century nu-Italo tropes. All these ingredients - and more - can be heard on his latest EP for Bordello a Parigi. Opener 'Nausea', for example, audibly doffs a cap to Koto and Bobby Orlando, while the more percussive, sweat-soaked 'Sick Your Own' remix of the same track provides an energetic, peak-time ready alternative. There are two mixes, too, of 'Jupiter Jack': the new beat-meets-Italo-disco throb of the 'Groovy Mix' and the breathless mid-80s Chicago house flex of the 'Jupiter Mix'. Chiming, synth-pop-goes-electro number 'Noise in the Stairwell' completes a fine package.

Review: Bordello A Parigi have fairly ruled it in 2014, and don't look like easing the pace down as the year draws to a close. This latest 12" from Italo-flexing label introduces Martin Duvall, alter ego of Amsterdam artist Martin C De Waal, and very much suited to the Bordello A Parigi cause on the evidence presented here. "All Night" is a fine slab of backwards glancing Italo, filled with breathless vocals, rippling arpeggios and strident drums and it's matched on the flip by the remix from Spaventi D'Azzuro & Aroy Dee. Eschewing their regular dusty techno styles, the R-A-G pair fully embrace Bordello's stylistic preferences here with a superb dub rendition that keeps the Italo vibe intact.

Review: Stockholm exports Elfenberg find themselves on Bordello here with four cuts of mind-expanding and life-enriching synth goodness. The skilled duo kick off with the high-speed arps and tight kicks of the retro-future smoother 'Forever Alone' then slow things down to a more Balearic and breezy vibe on 'Conga Coronation' with its finger clicks and lush pads. There is soft acid magic at the heart of 'Sphere Of Missing Out' while 'Cosmic Tribune' lulls you into a nice widescreen cosmic world of tumbling chord sequences and warped bass.

Review: This week on Bordello A Parigi we have a release originally from 1983 on Cinofilm Produzione. Berlin-based, Italian producer Armonics (Slow Motion) came across the 'Radio' 7? by coincidence in 2020 near his home in Southern Italy. Vito Lisco wrote and produced the track together with Renzo Maria La Costa back in the 80's in a basement. The original track has been revised with the vocal parts re-recorded, plus some added guitar riffs and remixed for a modern take on this eccentric Italo production by Evolution (L&L). Limited to 200 copies.
