Review: It's no surprise that Holland's Ekman has sprung up on the Bedouin label. After all, the imprint proposes a very similar sort of deal to the likes of Berceuse Heroique. Both labels love dark iconography and mood sounds; while it is clearly not to everyone's taste, at least they try hard. Ekman rocks up with four nasty cuts, the first "Track 1" attacking the speakers with a brutal shade of distorted bass and wild bass drumming, while "Track 2" adds in a little 303 nuttiness for good measure. On the flip, "Track 3" gargles its gnarly acidity over a layer of bubbling synths and metallic percussion, leaving "Track 4" to provide some much needed, and firmly stripped-down, beat flexing. Heavy gear, as expected.

Review: Lakker artist Ian McDonnell realigns with Bedouin Records for a most conceptual of albums as Eomac, the result of an invitation to use samples from the Arabic world sourced by the label, in a bid to cross cultural boundaries in a typically modern fashion. Bedouin approached McDonnell due to his life as an Irish man living in Berlin, further emphasizing the displacement of the original source material. As the Irish producer explains in the album's press release, he took great care to treat the source material with sensitivity and respect in order to understand the context of what he was working with. Apparently he submitted over 30 tracks, which has been condensed down into this 10-track album by Bedouin and adds a compelling chapter to Eomac's brand of brutal yet supple electronic production.

Techno
  1. Alexandria (7:04)
  2. Track 2 (1:08)
  3. Mesopotamia (6:01)
  4. Track 4 (2:47)
Review: Liverpool-based producer John Heckle is remarkably prolific, but still manages to maintain an impressively high quality threshold. On Tributes To A Sun God, he's in a remarkably melodious mood. While opener "Alexandria" comes blessed with his usual tough analogue beats - not to mention the hissing cymbals of Detroit techno - its' most endearing features are the drowsy pads and undulating melody lines. A similar approach can be found on the more acid-centric "Mesopatamia", which pops and spits with dancefloor intent. A fine package is completed by handclap-heavy drum workout "Track 4", and the Ambient House era electronics and sparse drum hits of "Track 2".

Tomarigi (LP)
Cat: BDNOG 003. Rel: 21 Nov 17
Industrial/Noise
  1. Tomarigi (part 1) (17:42)
  2. Tomarigi (part 2) (15:36)
Review: Well, what do you know? Japan's king of noise lands on the fleeting Bedouin imprint like it's nothing at all. The label is not one for sticking to a particular sound or vibe, but we appreciate having the Japanese don on our charts anyway, and this must be a record release number if you were to take a look back at his endless catalogue. "Tomarigi" occurs throughout two parts, both over 15 minutes long, and filled with all the dread and angst that you could possibly expect from Merzbow. Screams, screeches, decay, doom, death... and absolute quality throughout!
