Review: All City's LA series reaches its penultimate episode with LA photographer come beatsmith Coleman and Detroit's Ta'Raach each taking a ten inch side of vinyl. More commonly known for the photographic direction of the Madvillain albums amongst other things, Coleman proves his production chops on his first solo endeavour. "Write Thing", the final collaborative track with Eglo's Fatima is pick here, with her buttery vocals riding the hazy orchestral stutter with aplomb. On the flip Ta'raach opts for the mixtape approach, adopting a Bullion style continual saunter through sampledelic heat.

Strangbrew (B Bravo remix)
Review: Strangebrew sees San Francisco based button basher supreme Devonwho return to the All City imprint some two years after his sublime debut release Keepthafunkalive dropped. Sun drenched g-funked out instrumental bliss rules supreme across the three Devonwho productions, with the stripped back rhythms of the title track allowing the heliocentric strains of purple melodics the space to shine bright. Alongside this "Sleet" takes an equally slackened 4/4 beatdown approach, with spaced out keys spread lasciviously over several dizzying layers, whilst "Cactus" adopts an altogether hazier poise. Recent Earnest Endeavours addition B Bravo is a smart choice to add his slick glacial bump-funk boogie to the title track.

Dogon
Review: Gifted & Blessed's Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker has been operating under a number of monikers from his LA base for several years now, demonstrating a talent for multi faceted electronic music flecked indelibly with soul that has caught the ear of Steve Spacek, King Britt and the Eglo crew along the way. He seems to be in something of a purple patch production wise with this return to the All City imprint preceded by a stunningly presented EP entitled The Provider on his own label and soon to be followed by a new project entitled The Steoples (as well as some rumoured involvement with Alex Nut's label). On the A Side, "Seven In Twenty Four" is a wonderfully effervescent cruncher, combining delicately ringing synth patterns with 808 rhythms and rough bass and brings to mind Maurice Fulton's best dabblings as Syclops. It's complemented by the more outright 80s electro flex of "Dogon" with the skipping rhythmic base intermittently attacked by waves of analogue fudge. All City include the download codes too! Big tip!

Antiloudness War Manifesto (Tape 2) (4:40)
Review: Emergent Italian producer Herva has been responsible for some truly unique music committed to wax in recent times - see last year's album for Delsin as well as his hook up with Massprod on the mighty Kontra-Musik. His run of fine releases continues here with How To Mind Your Own, a six track EP for Dublin's All City operation which doesn't so much as defy easy genre categorisation, it laughs in the face of such futile gestures. Some may call it deep house but really Herva has crafted some mutant brands of the genre where individual tracks contain more ideas and rhythmic deviations than you are likely to hear in whole 12"s from many other artists. Totally crazy and totally refreshing.

Pointing Fingers
Review: Having enjoyed a remarkable 2010 that included Onra's superlative album, the LA series of killer ten inches and much more, Dublin imprint All City begin the year with the first in a new series originally mooted by the label bosses back in 2009. Inviting their favourite producers to knock heads and deliver two tracks, All City deliver a statement of intent with Martyn and Mike Slott at the controls with brilliant results! Much like the majority of Martyn's recent work it's pretty hard to categorise "All Nights", his A Side collaboration with Luckyme's Slott, other than to say it's a techno step flexer that's primed for play in the clubs. Special mention as well, for the prominent usage of cowbell and a vast array of unidentifiable sound effects that add a sonic richness to the track. The flipside brings the downtempo vibes of "Pointing Fingers", all reflective textures and soft, dreamlike melodies aided by rattling beat programming and ethereal vocal harmonies. Forward thinking sounds from all involved.

Review: Given that he makes evocative, imaginative, hard-to-pigeonhole tracks that draw inspiration from a myriad of sources, we've always thought that New Jackson (the recording alias of Dubliner David Kitt) should be making albums. From Night To Night, his debut full-length following six years delivering superb singles for a variety of hyped labels, only strengthens this theory. Warm, rich, melodious, imaginative, hugely entertaining and deliciously difficult to pigeonhole, the album veers between tactile morning-after synth-pop, neo-classical experimentalism, shuffling electronica, understated but cinematic deep house, Steve Reich style cyclical movements and drowsy analogue synth-scapes. That it not only hangs together but also makes perfect sonic sense is testament to Kitt's impressive musical skills.

Just Can't Get Enuff (3:30)
Review: Sexing up the dance with every edit and beat he presents, Parisian Onra does it again with two hazy, slo-mo RnB renditions. Loopy, filtered, woozy and loaded with a warm soul feel that's so rich it almost flops over the drums, there's a real finesse at play as "Every Little Thang" struts with a great swagger as the kicks and vocal match each other's off-beat mood. Meanwhile on the B, "Just Can't Get Enuff" is just a smidgeon more upbeat and enshrouded in balmy pads and cleverly layered vocal loops. We can't get enough of this.

Ras G & The ASP - "MDU NTR"
Sun Ra - "Nidhamu"
Review: Dublin based imprint All City delivers one of its most esoteric excursions yet, commencing a new series dedicated to the outer galactic jazz crusader otherwise known as the late, great Sun Ra. On the A-Side Ras G and The ASP offer a desnly atmospheric reinterpretation of 1971 oddity "Nidhamu", whilst the original version adorns the flipside. Excellent artwork from Stephen Serrato too!

Sensing Social Sirens (5:14)
Review: Some two years on from his last outing, Lars Stowe once again dons the Anno Stamm alias for a three-track missive on Ireland's deliciously eclectic All City. He begins with a trip into acid territory, layering fluctuating 303 lines, wonky vocal samples, cascading melodies and psychedelic electronics atop a tough drum machine groove. He continues on a retro-futurist theme with the chiming melodies, braindance motifs and thumping techno beats of "Charge It To My Account", before exploring the deeper side of his output on the dreamy, ambient techno inspired pulse of "Sensing Social Sirens". It's a pleasingly becalmed conclusion to an otherwise raging 12".

Down Wit U
Review: The near unstoppable run of xxxy continues with Kerpow on Irish label All City (responsible for that massive FaltyDL release this summer), complete with fantastically adorned, pop-art referencing sleeve. It's clear that his style has matured over his prolific run of productions; "Kerpow" is arguably one xxxy's most balanced productions to date, eschewing the day-glo garage of his recent tracks, and combining a pounding breakbeat and techno stabs with warm organ chords in just the right quantities. "Down Wit U" is a juke influenced cut, combining a relentless bass slam and restless 808 rhythms while the titular vocal sample adds a hook worthy of footwork contemporary Addison Groove.
