The Mole drops High Hopes LP, “a way to share my inspirations and re-inspire myself…”

The frogs and drums of Uruguay – and much more…

The Mole has described his new album – his fifth solo effort and second for Circus Company – as “a way to share my inspirations and re-inspire myself.”

Talking to Juno Daily, the Canadian producer also declared that High Hopes sounds “nothing like” his ‘High Dreams’ EP, which preceded the album last month.

Boasting some 17 songs across 40 minutes on one slice of wax, the album is more like a “continuation of the beat tape pacing from the last album (The River Widens), a collection of moments posing as ideas posing as a narrative stuffed with oddities and surprises that reward the close listen.”

He told us: “Magical thinking has been a popular topic around me these days. The power of intention put into action. In this album you’ll find many of my artistic heroes talking about some of their experiences applying themselves to their crafts.

“This is a way to share my inspirations and re-inspire myself. Scattered about are also many clin d’ oeil and inside jokes for those who care to explore. Easter eggs.”

The Mole is joined by friends and colleagues on several songs included on High Hopes. Rick May plays bass on both Que Rico and album stand out GoinF4er. Sophie Trudeau (Godspeed You Black Emperor) plays and arranges violins on GoinF4er and Danuel Tate (Cobblestone Jazz) and Julz Chaz (Wagon Repair) both play vibes and Emaxx throughout the album.

“Listen closely for the frogs and drums of Uruguay, the writers of California, comedians in New York and my sweet beloved family,” he added.
