Juno Daily – In The Mix: Scanner’s LFO On 45 mix
A treat from Robin Rimbaud’s lockdown mix archive
It’s two legends for the price of one here at Juno Daily. Inspired by the chartbusting Stars On 45 singles of the 80s, electronic maverick Scanner used the same hit-after-hit technique to create mixes of some of his favourite artists during lockdown.
Here’s his mix of highlights from the catalogue of bleep techno titans LFO.
“They were inspired from a playful conversation many years ago with Carsten Nicolai (German artist Alva Noto) about such mixes and how tacky and trashy those original Stars on 45 mixes were,” Scanner aka Robin Rimbaud told us, “where they replayed classic pop tunes over a central unchanging beat. I felt there was a strong idea for a mix that replicated this idea but used the original source material but was far more exploratory, yet equally lighthearted at times too. So, I set about using NI Traktor with my laptop and recorded them all entirely live, synched to a central beat.”
TRACKLISTING:
Elements of the following LFO tracks – in no particular order – included on the mix:
Them / LF0 / You Have To Understand / Ultra Schall / Love Is The Message / Advance / Syndrome / Simon From Sydney / Freeze / Think A Moment / Tan Ta Ra / Jason Vorhees / Freak / We Are Back
