The Maghreban to release ‘odd pop’ album under new alias Mystery Tiime
Tiime to prepare yourself for some Maudlin Tales of Grief and Love
Ayman Rostom aka diverse club track maestro The Maghreban, has recorded an album of low fi dance, post punk, new wave and odd pop under his new Mystery Tiime alias.
Maudlin Tales of Grief and Love is released on Vicious Charm, a new label from Skint boss Damian Harris aka Midfield General, on October 25.
“Some people said it sounded like Robert Wyatt, I had never listened to his stuff before I started singing. It was a compliment; I mean, he can’t sing either,” Rostom commented on the LP.
Harris added: “The album really took me by surprise, it’s just unlike anything else – authentic and captivating. It kept calling me back… time and time again. These qualities are my criteria for signing an album, and here we are…”
Lyrical themes on the album are said to include fatherhood, relationships and opiate addition, while the musical influences include Eurythmics, DAF, 23 Skidoo, Richard H. Kirk, Pigbag, Swamp Children and The Creatures.
The album’s tracklist is:
- Don’t Cry
- Long Distance Runner
- A Cruel Trick
- What Then
- One Day
- A Summer Sunday
- Thank You Deeply
- Nausea
- Plughole Man
- Not Your Fault
