Premiere: μ-Ziq shares ‘Imperial Crescent’ from new album Grush
New album is packed with roadtested live favourites

μ-Ziq is a titan of electronic music. Ever since the first releases under the name on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex – the mighty Tango ‘N’ Vectif and Bluff Limbo albums – through to his landmark LPs on Virgin and Warp and the establishment of Planet Mu, both one of the bravest and most celebrated about, Mike Paradinas has left a unique stamp on dance music’s leftfield.
Mike releases a new album titled Grush on June 14 via that very same label, and he’s given us the chance to share one of its tracks – the spiralling arpeggio-fest that is ‘Imperial Crescent’ – with Juno Daily readers.
The tracks on Grush are all road-tested live favourites developed with feedback from Mike’s touring partner and visuals guy Mora (Jan Moravec). It’s a detailed and energetic journey which replicates the flow of a live gig, with a lot of the tracks made in hotel rooms in response to shows. ‘Imperial Crescent’ is named after a Japanese hotel (as is ‘Belvedere’ from the album, named after a Prague hotel), while some tracks such as ‘Hyper Daddy’ were created specifically to play live.
