24 For 2024 Tips: 2/24 – Tailor Jae
Suits you, maam
Gone are the days when underground dance sub-cultures stayed in their own territory – and a good thing too. Check a DJ set by Tailor Jae – her Boiler Room session for example – and you’ll hear everything from the dancehall-infused bass of Omaar to Lenny De Ice’s timeless rave classic We Are IE and Danny Weed’s turn of the millenium anthem ‘Creeper’ weaved together into a gloriously energised, party fuelling whole.
Even more exciting is the prospect of Jae getting into the studio, certainly if her debut solo production ‘The Wheel’ is anything to go on. With its ace Nokia 3310 ringtone and oldskool MC sample, the track is an uproarious, sub-bass heavy drum & bass workout with all the future reggae vibes and recognisable of a vintage Full Cycle or V Recordings anthem.
No wonder she’s getting love from 1Xtra’s Sir Spyro and 6Music’s Mary Anne Hobbs alike, not to mention Chase & Status, who invited her to support them at three high profile shows this summer. Take it from us, big things in the pipeline in 2024…
