Matthew Herbert has shared a new video from his album with the London Contemporary Orchestra ahead of his London Barbican show this weekend.

‘The Horse Is Put To Work’ is taken from the album The Horse, released in May of this year.

The album saw Herbert – known as a far out sonic experimenter who will look to make music with and from anything – looking for the largest possible animal skeleton to explore though music. He settled on a full size horse and from that made flutes from its thigh bones and bows from ribs and hair. Gut strings stretched over the pelvis feature in the mid-section and he travelled to ancient cave paintings of horses in Northern Spain to record reverb at their door.

He takes the concept on the road with LCO – who previously collaborated with Ninja Tune act Actress on a double album and Proms show in 2018 – at the following dates:

14th October – London, The Barbican

16th October – Hamburg, Elbphilharmonie

18th October – Berlin, Theater Des Westens

Plus, he plays:

22nd November – Matthew Herbert & Julian Sartorius ‘Drum Solo’, Auditório Emílio Rui Vilar, Lisbon
