Pioneer buys Serato
What does the news mean for DJs?

AlphaTheta Corporation, the parent company behind Pioneer DJ, has announced the acquisition of Serato Audio Research Limited. In simple terms, Pioneer has bought Serato, makers of the leading DJ software renowned for its digital vinyl system integration. There was already an overlap between the two brands, with many Pioneer controllers featuring compatibility with Serato DJ Pro and the free DJ Lite version. The press release announcing the news insists that the two brands will continue to operate independently, but AlphaTheta CEO Yoshinori Kataoka said: “Bringing Serato into the AlphaTheta Group will lead to new synergies and significant technological innovations.” In the long term, though, expect to see even deeper Serato integration in Pioneer DJ hardware.
