Members of My Bloody Valentine, Scritti Politti, Stephen Evens and more to appear in surreal sci-fi flick Ozma

Film premieres at London’s Prince Charles cinema on Friday

Terry Edwards

Members of My Bloody Valentine, PJ Harvey‘s band, Scritti Politti and Stephen Evens are among the musicians featured in a new sci-fi horror movie premiering in the Sci-Fi London Film Festival.

Ozma stars actors Ferdy Roberts, Eva Magyar, Victoria Moseley and Jun Noh, but the surreal plot – about an insomniac who discovers an alien jellyfish-like fugitive creature in the alley by his house – and dream-like atmosphere are further enhanced by the frequent appearance of musicians who provide a live musical commentary to the action.

The musicians featured in Ozma include the renowned saxophonist Terry Edwards (Gallon Drunk, PJ Harvey, Madness, Nick Cave, Hot Chip, Tom Waits, Siouxsie, The Jesus and Mary Chain), guitarist Jen Macro (My Bloody Valentine, Brix Smith, Hurtling), Ethiopian singer Haymanot Tesfa, Shakuhachi player Clive Bell (Jah Wobble, David Sylvian, Bill Laswell; Japanese bamboo flute in the Harry Potter films and The Hobbit), drummer Stephen Gilchrest (Stephen Evens, Hot Sauce Pony, Graham Coxon Band, Art Brut, The Damned) and Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti, Frank Sidebottom, Article 54).

With themes of loss, memory and meaning, this monochromatic film mixes experimental elements with nods to silent film, film noir and schlocky 1950s B-movies. The film’s world premiere is at the Prince Charles Cinema on Friday June 2 at 5:45pm, with a Q&A with director Keith John Adams.
