The Synthesiser SH-4d cherry picks some of the best sounds and features from Roland’s extensive back catalogue.
With looks inspired by 1979’s classic SH-2 analogue synth, Roland’s new SH-4d draws on the past in a fresh new way. The iconic Japanese brand celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, and the 4d seems to tie in with the festivities, almost like a greatest hits of the last five decades distilled into a single groovebox. It’s primarily a five-part multitimbral synth with built-in sequencer, featuring oscillator modes based on vintage classics like the SH-101 and Juno-106, as well as more modern synthesis modes. You’ll also find a separate rhythm part, featuring samples from classic Roland drum machines and other sounds which can be used to sculpt patterns. You can watch a full demo above.
The Roland SH-4d is due in stock very soon and available to pre-order now, priced at £544.
