Premiere – Hear disco legend Patrick Cowley’s unearthed rarity ‘Love & Passion’
Dark Entries mark four decades since the disco innovator’s death
On Sunday November 12, it was exactly 40 years since the death of Patrick Cowley at his San Francisco home due to AIDS-related illness.
Cowley is best known for his work with Sylvester and his protracted club remix of Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’, but the Dark Entries label has has been working with Cowley’s friends and family to uncover the singular artist’s lesser-known sides, including his soundtracks for gay pornographic films on compilation albums School Daze, Muscle Up, and Afternooners.
The label have marked this anniversary by releasing Malebox, featuring six previously unreleased tracks from the archives – and shared one of those six, ‘Love & Passion’, in full with Juno Daily readers.
The label said of the track: “Patrick’s gifts for careful orchestration and infectious melodies shine on ‘Floating’ and ‘Love and Passion’, which were likely demo tracks for Loverde. The songs on Malebox display the vitality and inventiveness of a brilliant composer taken from us too soon.”
