Greek synth wizard penned ‘Bladerunner’ soundtrack

An outpouring of electronic music artists have paid tribute to legendary soundtrack composer and synth music pioneer Vangelis, following his passing on May 17.

Artists such as Flying Lotus, Hudson Mohawke and Otto Van Biz Markie have paid tribute, reflecting the composer’s longstanding impact on electronic music, thanks to his soundtracks to films like Blade Runner and Chariots Of Fire, as well as his many original fusion albums.

Electronic music producer Kuedo, who sampled Vangelis’ Blade Runner ‘End Titles’ theme on his 2011 Planet Mu debut LP ‘Severant’, posted an entire thread dedicated to he late musician, readable below:

Vangelis’ music was especially known for its impact on drum n’ bass, with his influence helping to secure many of the genre’s cosmic and sci-fi themes. Artists such as Dillinja, Goldie, Dom & Roland and Distance have all routinely sampled Vangelis’ work. Among the most notable of these tracks include Dillinja’s ‘The Angels Fell’, which lifts the piano from ‘Blade Runner Blues’ and sets it against a backdrop of hard techstep. Many new drum n’ bass artists including Halogenix, TC, Reso and TeeBee have paid tribute:
