IWD 22 – CICI’s Top 10
CICI shares her top tips with the Juno massive
At the age of 11, in her native Dublin, CICI bought her first two albums – Nevermind by Nirvana and Homework by Daft Punk, and thus the psychedelic-tinged dance music she makes and plays today had their initial roots. These days she’s Influenced by everything from R&S and Ninja Tune to Rekids, Kompakt and Clone: Cici, and plays all over the world, but specifically London and Ibiza. Here. she talks us through her top selections…
Sissi Rada – Nanodiamond [Kryptox]
“From her sweet and soulful debut album on Kryptox, the tracks feel empowering in how poetic they are.”
Paula Tape – Astroturismo [Rhythm Section International]
“Taken from Paula’s her EP of the same name, I always wonder whether the track name or album title came first when they share. With Astroturismo I can only imagine the track came first and inspired the rest of the EP because of how amazing it, completely tying everything else in.”
Nina Kraviz – Mr Jones [Rekids]
“Seriously deep vocal vibes from Nina’s Rekids box. But who is Mr Jones?”
“Her biggest house release to date! I’m very excited about TSHA and think it’s so inspiring to see the meteoric rise she’s achieved so far, especially when she’s bringing out slamming house tracks like this one.”
Anastasia Kristensen – Volchebno [Houndstooth]
“Excellent instrumental from her recent Houndstooth release, a woman I’ve had the opportunity to DJ with in Ibiza and her track selection is always inspiring!”
Cassy – Together [Housewax] – “From CBM 2 on Housewax, killer house EP. Cassy has been a massive influence on my career, I love everything she puts out and also her energy that can’t be matched.”
“As the title suggests-from Jessy’s compilation, one of my favourite DJ Kicks. I love how her vocals give it such a unique style yet still filled with hints of iconic genres across the electronic world. Such a soulful vibe, this track really pulls the whole collection all together, I hope if / when I do a DJ Kicks it comes out this smooth ha!”
Indira Paganotto – Himalaya [KNTXT]
“Epic synth/vocal interplay from her Himalaya EP which also features Takeshi, I love clever records and this one definitely stands out as that. Indira is a woman everyone should be taking note of.”
Surgeons Girl – A Violet Sleep [Livity Sound]
“I get Running Back and Roman Flügel vibes from the ‘Violet Sleep’ EP, which is definitely a massive compliment in my eyes. Surgeons Girl is a hardware queen and I love her tracks, they have a very real edge to them especially when you get them on that club Soundsystem!”
“Deep and dark, exactly how all tracks should be.”
