Heavenly Recordings announce details of ‘Heavenly Remixes Vol 3 & 4 – The Andrew Weatherall Remixes’

Comprehensive collection of the late acid house icon’s reworkings will land in January

The long promised - and much anticipated - Weatherall remix collections set to emerge in Jan

Heavenly Recordings have announced details of Heavenly Remixes Vol. 3 & 4, a pair of remix albums documenting the prolific DJ and producer’s finest remixes for the label.

The compilation follows Heavenly Remixes Vol. 1 & 2, which will be released on December 10 and like the first, will showcase some of the label’s best-known remixes besides those by Weatherall.

Documenting Weatherall’s influence on the label as one of their core inspirations, the remixes are compiled to help fans remember his come-up alongside them, starting in 1990.

When Heavenly was launched, Weatherall was a regular visitor to Capersville, the pre-Heavenly press office run by label founder Jeff Barrett (who later became Andrew’s manager). Inside the office, he famously picked up a copy of Primal Scream’s unloved second album and singled out a track that would later become ‘Loaded’, after being given an instruction to “fucking destroy” it by the band’s Andrew Innes. Thus began the first Heavenly-Weatherall remix – ‘The World According To Sly & Lovechild’.

Next, Weatherall provided his own take on Saint Etienne’s ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ – his ‘Mix of Two Halves’ would set the template for his next three decades of audio exploration.

Between 1990 and his death in 2020, Andrew remixed more Heavenly bands than those of any other label. The label remembers him returning music to the office, often in person, for at least one ceremonial playback, wherein he would crank the volume and tip his head back, listening to the track to gain a better feel of it. His ‘studio adventures’, Weatherall said, were always guided by the aim to “destroy the source material”.

The remixes are set to come alongside a launch party thrown by the label this coming January 29, 2022, featuring DJ sets from Erol Alkan, David Holmes, Noreen STP and Heavenly Jukebox.

Heavenly Remixes Vol. 3 & 4 will be released on January 28, 2022. Pre-order the album here:
