Two more classic Roland synths set for Boutique reissues
The JX-8P and JD-800 are next in line for reboots.
Roland have been on a mission to reissue as many of their classic synth models as possible in recent years. The latest models to get the Boutique treatment are the 1980s JX-8P and early 90s JD-800, which have inspired the new JX-08 and JD-08 modules.
Roland fans will recognise the basic formula here. Both models are digital reboots rather than straightforward reissues, adopting the well established Boutique module format and updating the features of the original synths while replicating their sound using Roland’s latest digital synth engines.
The JX-8P was a giant DCO-based analogue synth, released in 1985 and renowned for its lush string sounds and silky pads. Released in 1991, the JD-800 was a ‘Linear Arithmetic’ keyboard, which combined samples with digital synthesis and plenty of hands-on controls.
The Roland JX-08 and JD-08 are due to arrive in January 2022, both priced at £351. You can see them in action above and below.
