The hybrid synth gets some impressive new options courtesy of free V3 firmware.
The Arturia MicroFreak paraphonic hybrid synth has been updated via new firmware. The V3 code adds three new polyphonic oscillator modes courtesy of Eurorack experimentalists Noise Engineering. You can hear more below.
The Bass oscillator uses Buchla-style wave folding for harmonics. Harm is based around additive synthesis. SawX is a supersaw oscillator with phase modulation and chorus.
The update is the biggest yet for the synth, which had a hidden vocoder mode unlocked back in August via the V2 firmware update. Other additions include an increased number of preset slots, and a new four-voice unison mode.
Existing MicroFreak owners can update their firmware via the Arturia site. New MicroFreaks will start shipping with firmware V3 soon.
The Arturia MicroFreak is available now, priced at £228.99. Read our full review here.
