Forest Drive West hits the Jungle Crack
The emergent producer switches stance for some 170 bpm rollers on Rupture.
It’s quite refreshing to see an artist take a more singular path after being given an undeniable leg up into a particular corner of the music game. Forest Drive West was little known at the start of this year, but as has happened with the likes of Bruce, Simo Cell and Batu, scoring a release on Ytivil Dnuos was a fine way to make an entrance. The System 12” was an especially fine EP, draped in uneasy tension creeping around the slower end of the Livity Sound spectrum. Most other artists picked up by Pev & co’s label have gone on to likeminded spots such as Hessle Audio and Cold Recordings, but Forest Drive West has instead opted for a detour towards a different tempo range, darewesay scene, altogether.
Rupture is a London-based label that has been in operation since 2012, focusing on up to the minute jungle and drum & bass productions from producers such as Spirit, Outer Heaven and Digital. Far from throwback material, it’s a label championing those still committed to pushing the sound forwards, and so it would seem is Forest Drive West. The Jungle Crack EP features a spread of moods, not to mention a cheeky sample from the excellent comedy series The Armando Iannucci Shows. Anyone with a penchant for the intricate, atmospheric productions of Source Direct and Photek should find plenty to enjoy on this EP. Take a listen to the clips via the player below.
Rupture will release Jungle Crack E.P. by Forest Drive West on October 21.
