DDS announces Equiknoxx album
The bizarro dancehall collective from Jamaica are in the spotlight with the freshly-unveiled Bird Sound Power.
The DDS label from Demdike Stare duo Miles Whittaker and Sean Canty continues to surprise and delight. Late January saw DDS coax the hypnagogic album, Cognition / Observation, out of noted modular explorer Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe, whilst more recently we were treated to the welcome sight of a surprise batch of Shinichi Atobe material apparently recorded “some time in the last 20 years” that picked up where the excellent Butterfly Effect LP from the Japanese artist left off. The stylistic curve balling from DDS continues apace with the announcement of an album from Kingston, Jamaica-based dancehall collective Equiknoxx.
The ornithologically-minded production unit formed around core members Bobby Blackbird, Gavsborg, Time Cow and have been honing their distinctive oddball dancehall sound for some time now; Gavsborg was the producer responsible for Busy Signal’s 2005 hit “Step Up”. The Bird Sound Power LP for DDS spans 12 tracks covering the past seven years of Equiknoxx studio output and was apparently put together by DDS with the assistance of esteemed Manchester selectors Jon K and Balraj ‘Swing Ting’ Samrai. Fans of Jon K mixes may recognise a few tracks on this album, whilst the below artwork for Bird Sound Power was also put together by the Hoya:Hoya resident.
DDS will release Bird Sound Power by Equiknoxx in late July.
