Mark Barrott maps out more Sketches From An Island
A second Balearic-inspired album by the International Feel boss is on the way.
In amongst the onset of a mini-album series, Gonno’s stand out Obscurant 12″ and a whole host of José ‘Café del Mar’ Padilla material, perhaps one of International Feel’s more intriguing releases in 2015 was Mark Barrott’s album, Sketches From An Island. Said to be made in Ibiza using “weird percussion, some slide guitars and a few borrowed synths,” it follows the inaugural Sketches 1 12″ the label put out in 2013 admits a trail of other Sketches-themed titles Barrott has put out since. News has now surfaced that a second Mediterranean edition of Barrott’s island notes is on the way with a nine-track follow up LP, simply titled Sketches From An Island 2.
The announcement comes amidst a particularly productive period for Barrott and the label in general, with a newly-issued Cascades 12″ from him sandwiched inbetween mini-albums from CFCF and the German pairing of Wolf Müller & Cass. Speaking of the upcoming Sketches sequel, Barrott writes in a press release, “I am also telling stories of everyday life in Ibiza, soundtracking my life here through local field recordings, dusty synths, some African percussion and a bit of slide guitar.” As you’ll be able to tell from the preview below, Sketches From An Island 2 is so summer it hurts, with guitars, flutes, marimbas and other Balearic and exotica sounds a perfect mental sojourn for those of you stuck in the workplace this Monday afternoon.
International Feel will release Sketches From An Island 2 by Mark Barrott on July 1.
