W.25TH launches with Laraaji & Sun Araw
The new Superior Viaduct division will be inaugurated by a double LP offering from the duo called Professional Sunflow.
Rich and diverse is the catalogue developed by San Francisco archivalists Superior Viaduct since it was launched in earnest some five years ago, dipping into the canons of Craig Leon, Tuxedomoon, Devo, Liquid Liquid and so many more. With the label’s reissuing approach down to a fine art, Superior Viaduct have elected to widen their remit in announcing a new division called W.25TH focused on “inventive sounds from current artists” and the delicious combination of ambient icon Laraaji (pictured above) and Sun Araw have been chosen to inaugurate proceedings.
Currently seen across the world radiating a warm spiritual vibe through his Peace Garden Yoga Sessions, Laraaji’s collaboration with Sun Araw for W.25TH follows a series of recent live performances together. Indeed the music on the upcoming four-track double LP, Professional Sunflow, originates from two such performances in Leipzig and Lausanne in 2014 and combines pre-written elements and improvisation. Superior Viaduct sum the album up nicely as “dreamy layers of percussion, ambient textures and vibrant melodies,” and you can hear excerpts below.
Further W.25TH projects are promised from the Nazoranai triplet of Keiji Haino, Stephen O’Malley and Oren Ambarchi, and an as-yet unnamed collaboration between Richard Pinhas, William Winant, and Comets On Fire’s Noel Von Harmonson and Utrillo Kushner.
W.25TH will release Professional Sunflow by Laraaji and Sun Araw on June 17.
