Bastien Carrara brings a Summa Breez to Apron
The Parisian upstart has a record primed for release on Funkineven’s label.
Funkineven is wasting no time in 2016, keeping the pace plentiful on Apron with fine gems from Shamos and Brassfoot already well and truly out in the field with a debut album from the label boss mooted to arrive sometime this spring. As ever Steven Julien is committed to representing lesser-known talents alongside his more familiar cohorts, providing those hopeful new producers fit into the specific aesthetic that hovers around his label. Bastien Carrara has already snuck some wares out over the past couple of years, closely aligned with fellow Parisian Fulbert. Back in 2014 both producers contributed a side each to the Mont Cenis Tapes 01 cassette release, with select cuts then making it on to an ensuing sampler 12” the year after on Fulbert’s Rawthenticity label.
Carrara is now making his own way, sidling up to Apron with a three-track EP conveniently titled Apron EP. It’s fair to say that all the jams on the record slot right in to that aforementioned Apron aesthetic, drumming up a situation the label aptly describes as, “Parisian bad boy beats the hell out of his MPC & records onto tape.” If that doesn’t sound like the premise for an Apron release we don’t know what does. You can get a feel for all the tracks by way of the SoundCloud clips below, and we’re sure you’ll agree that the May release date chimes perfectly with the sunkissed tones tucked away in the release, not least sublime B1 cut “Diskother”.
Apron will release Apron EP by Bastien Carrara on May 3.
