Hear Mikael Seifu’s mix of Ethiopian and African folk music
RVNG have unleashed the tape mix from their new Ethiopian signee for all to hear.
This week saw the release of Zelalem from Ethiopian artist Mikael Seifu, a five-track EP for New York’s RVNG that should open his self-styled “Ethiopiyawi Electronic” sound to a much wider audience after his emergence on DC label 1432 r. At the time RVNG announced his signature, news of Zelalem was accompanied by the chance to buy a cassette mix of Ethiopian and African folk music by Seifu to further contextualise his sound and broaden the mind. To herald the release of Zelalem, RVNG have now elected to offer up a “digital spin” of this cassette mix for all to hear – soak it up below and expect a full review of Seifu’s record on this site next week.
For our New York-based readers; head down to RVNG’s gravitational center Commend this evening for an official Zelalem launch party featuring music selections from 1432 r founders Joyce Lim, Sami Yenigun and Dawit Eklund.
