Can Gut Nose Escape The Matrix?

Stream the New Yorker’s return to Styles Upon Styles in full here.

Having first surfaced with the cruddy eaT BiskiT tape in 2013, Brooklyn denizen Gut Nose was offered a wider platform to display his “blunted and dilapidated” sound by Styles Upon Styles the following year. The Vicetopia 12″ announced his arrival on the label but it was a mere prelude for the narrative strains of the Gut Nose album that followed, Filthy City. Formed of two suites of varying style, the album was summed up quite accurately by Tony Poland in a review as a “36-minute juggernaut of sonic unpredictability.” There has been zero music of note from Gut Nose since then, but this month brings him back to the SUS fold with a new 12″ entitled Escape The Matrix.

The four-track 12″ is due out on Friday, but we have been granted an advance full stream which you can hear below. Fans of the aforementioned Filthy City will be happy to see that this new Gut Nose record maintains the balance between coarse clubby rhythms and grimy hip hop à la Company Flow at their finest.
