Bintus is a Reincarnated Savage

The Power Vacuum main man makes his first outing away from home for Bedouin.

Over the past few years Milo Smee has hit a particularly productive point in his career. The seasoned electronic vagabond has lived a fair few lives in the world of music, from his early oddball electro funk excursions as Kruton on Pure Plastic through to the psychedelic freakouts of his band Chrome Hoof not to mention dalliances with the Dissident label under his Binary Chaffinch guise. Considering the slightly grubby, punk-esque finish on much of his music, it’s no surprise that you could also find him squaring off with Doug Lee on Brothers, and it’s with that aesthetic that he has managed to find plenty of knowing nods for his running of the Power Vacuum label. His own Bintus project landed just at the right time for unruly, distorted techno, while releases by renegades such as EDMX, JoeFarr and Cylob have helped shape out a fine stable of deviant sounds that gleefully flip the bird to notions of studio finesse and balanced arrangements.

Having previously kept his pet project on the homestead, Smee is now taking his Bintus project out to pastures new with the Reincarnated Savage EP for Bedouin. While there can often be a slightly scary amount of distortion shaping out the Bintus sound, the lead track on the record is finely honed, pummeling electro of the highest order, albeit with plenty of unhinged noises zipping around in the mix. Fear not red-line lovers, for there’s still ample room for overloaded madness on the flipside by way of balancing out the release. Smee’s effort lands in the midst of a flurry of activity for Bedouin, who have put out some great sounds this year from Healing Force Project, Ekman and many more besides. Check out the preview of “Reincarnated Savage” below before the record drops in four weeks time.
