Edward reinterprets Harmonia & Eno
The gifted German producer has reworked lost tracks by Brian Eno and Krautrock outfit Harmonia for a release on Die Orakel.
There’s no denying Gilles Aiken, aka Edward, is one of the more exciting producers within the more adventurous realms of house music, and he’s been on a roll since Giegling’s release of his Into A Better Future LP, which he’s recently followed up with the Birds EP. Since then, under his Desert Sky moniker, Aiken has put out two records, one of which was this week’s Need For Afiliation release on Baby Ford’s PAL SL, however as Edward he’s supplied Oliver Hafenbauer’s mystical Die Orakel imprint with a sixth title, following his label debut with Feuerhand. Edward’s newest entry reworks two songs by Harmonia, a group Brian Eno later joined after it was established by Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius of Cluster, and Michael Rother of Neu!
A press release explains that following Harmonia’s 1973 debut album Musik von Harmonia, Brian Eno and Harmonia collaborated to make “Atmosphere” in 1976, however the song wasn’t released until 1997, “as the tape was considered lost for almost twenty years.” This is not the first time Harmonia & Eno have been remixed, with Shackleton and Appleblim taking on “Sometimes In Autumn” and “By The Riverside” for their ’76 Remixes in 2009. Edward’s efforts have reworked “Atmosphere”, while the B-side presents a reinterpretation of “Sehr Kosmisch” from Harmonia’s aforementioned debut album. Edward’s return to Die Orakel follows records by Jaures and Pablo Mateo after The Citizen’s Band inception of the label in 2013, and you can preview Harmonia & Eno ’76 – Edward Versions below.
Die Orakel will release Harmonia & Eno ’76 – Edward Versions by Edward in November.
