Russell Haswell is a Tongue Dancer
The noise afficiando is set for a return to Editions Mego with a one-sided 12″ recorded at Sweden’s EMS Elektronmusikstudion.
In a manner befitting their 20th year of operation, Editions Mego have been on imperious form so far in 2015 with a reissue of the Fridge Trax albums from General Magic & Pita and the Empty Airport LP from today’s feature artist Christina ‘Chra‘ Nemec among the highlights. With the latest Shit & Shine effort from Texan Craig Clouse set to follow next month, further projects to surface on Editions Mego this year have been a rare solo album from Pan Sonic’s Ilpo Väisänen and an album-length recording of Voices From The Lake pair Donato Dozzy and Neel.
September will now also see the return of Russell Haswell, the UK noise artist whose affiliation with the label dates back to its original iteration as Mego. Last seen on the similarly minded Diagonal with the dancefloor-focused Double A, Haswell’s return to Editions Mego comes in the form of a one-track 12″ called Tongue Dancer ’85. Intriguingly the 11-minute composition originates from a performance Haswell gave at Stockholm’s EMS Elektronmusikstudion earlier this year as part of a six-day residency with noted cellist Lucy Railton. Aside from a given date of the recording (Thursday, March 19, 2015) and the equipment used by Haswell (ALM, Tiptop Audio, SERGE) no further information from Editions Mego has been provided.
Editions Mego will release Tongue Dancer ’85 by Russell Haswell on September 18.
