Ajukaja & Andrevski are Looking For Something That’s Not There

The Estonian pair return with some fresh tracks for Jon Rust’s Levels label – stream both here.

Pronounced ah-uu-kaɪ-ya and an-drev-skee, the Estonian pairing of Ajukaja & Andrevski delivered one of last year’s most insouciant slabs of house music in “Rare Birds”, lead track off their fine 12″ for Jon Rust’s prospering Levels label. Championed by the likes of Joy Orbison and Gilles Peterson, “Rare Birds” remains a real delight and “a perfect example of a sporadic jam session that blossoms into something larger,” as Brendan Arnott noted in his review. It has been common knowledge further Ajukaja & Andrevski material was due on Levels at some point, with Joy Orbison including the effervescent glider “Looking For Something That’s Not There” on his Beats In Space appearance late last year.

The aforementioned “Looking For Something That’s Not There” is included as the lead track on Levels 004 which will finally arrive in all good records shops towards the end of next week. Jon Rust, the towering Levels boss, has kindly granted us a full stream of the record ahead of release with B-side “Mesilind” a tough drum track that will appeal to fans of the Hashman Deejay. Those seeking further enlightenment on Ajukaja & Andrevski should check the excellent podcast the pair mixed for this site earlier this year.
