Avenue 66 reopens with Lowtec release
The Acid Test offshoot will end a two year hiatus by issuing The Man On Wire EP by the Workshop boss.
Back in 2013, Absurd Recordings expanded their remit beyond championing the ongoing invention of the Roland 303 through the Acid Test series with the launch of Avenue 66. Inaugurated with the Above The Cherry Moon 12″ by Joey Anderson, then a rising talent of the US house scene, Avenue 66 looked to be a fine addition to the Absurd family of labels, but it’s since taken a back seat as the LA operation focused on Acid Test artist albums from Tin Man, Achterbahn D’Amour and most recently John Frusciante’s Trickfinger project. Avenue 66 is back on the menu soon however, with Workshop man Lowtec at the helm for the three-track Man On Wire EP due later this month.
The producer, real name Jens Kuhn, first revealed the forthcoming release to RA last year as part of the Q&A accompanying his fine podcast mix and it arrives with the minimum of additional information. The fact the three tracks were mastered and cut by Rashad Becker at D&M is all that is provided. Outside of his production work at the moment, Kuhn has his hands full with label duties after deciding to dust off the Out To Lunch label after a ten year hiatus in fine style with the Sword Of Light 12″ from The Hangout Project. Workshop meanwhile, returned with one of their fine irregular transmissions in the shape of Workshop 21, a four-track ‘mini compilation’ that featured contributions from Tapes, Manchester pair Herron and Willow, and a mid-’90s curio from The Horn.
Avenue 66 will release Man On Wire by Lowtec on May 18.
