St. Julien returns with A16
FunkinEven’s production alter ego returns to Apron – preview the four track EP here.
The debut St. Julien release from Apron founder FunkinEven arrived out of nowhere in January last year and was for us a real highlight of the label’s 2014 output – no mean feat given they also put out records from Seven Davis Jr. and Jay Daniel. Deviating into gloopy EBM and primitive electronics, the self-titled three-track 12″ suggested St. Julien was an outlet for FunkinEven to explore more esoteric ideas away from his more established main production handle. Apron have unleashed previews of a new four-track St. Julien EP, called A16, which can be heard below and the deranged Das Ding stylings of lead track “A1 Institute” are a particular highlight for us! The record also features a collaboration with Budgie, a Los Angeles-based producer last seen impressing on Theo Parrish’s Wildheart Recordings label.
