Premiere: Stream Lifeworld by Moon B in full
Immerse yourself fully in Wes Gray’s forthcoming debut for the 1080p label.
It’s been a fine year for 1080p, and the Vancouver label are planning to cap it off this month with two tapes, one from local rapper Young Braised and the other from Los Angeles’ most prominent exponent of cosmic funk, Moon B. We are quite proud to facilitate the first public listen of the latter’s Lifeworld, the latest in a string of cassette releases from Wes Gray’s Moon B project. It provides a sublime exercise in what the artist calls “chopped grainy subcontinental film aural motifs paired with other slankness, bonus synth overlays, moods galore for your bus ride or smoking sesh.”
If PPU uncovered some unheard boogie sessions from John Carpenter committed to tape in the ’80s, they might sound like Lifeworld at times, but there is more to the 30-minute release than that. It really showcases the range of samples Gray seeks out when sitting down in his studio, the opening pitched down loops the only time a familiar source rears its head to us. Dig right in and head to the 1080p site to grip a copy of the tape.
