Model 500 has Digital Solutions

Juan Atkins will issue a third Model 500 album through his Metroplex label in January.

At a time of year when the content farm is grinding to a halt, Resident Advisor has come through with a veritable scoop regarding Juan Atkins’ plans to celebrate 35 years in the techno game with a new Model 500 album. Initially alluded to by Atkins back in July, the forthcoming Digital Solutions represents the first album from the project in some 16 years, and is the first to be released through his own Metroplex label, with both Deep Space and Body & Mind being issued on R&S Records.

Recent years have seen Atkins expand Model 500, working with Mike Banks, DJ Skurge and Mark Taylor, both in a live capacity and on the two 12″s issued through R&S Records at the turn of the decade. However, the forthcoming Digital Solutions is largely a solo effort from Atkins, aside from some additional production work from Banks. Its scheduled arrival on Metroplex continues the label’s sporadic behaviour in recent years – the label’s sole release this year was Population One’s excellent 12″ A Mind Of His Own, though a record from fellow US producer Plural is imminent.

Metroplex will release Digital Solutions by Model 500 in January.
