Cloudface next on the Black Opal series

The Mood Hut crew member will grace the vinyl-focused label with a new release in June.

Opal Tapes branched out into the vinyl market with the Black Opal series late last year, using the sister label as a dedicated platform for 12″ releases after toying with the format intermittently; cassettes from 1991 and WANDA GROUP were reissued on 12″ due to popular demand whilst releases from Shapednoise and Yves De Mey skipped the cassette format entirely in favour of wax. The Black Opal series launched with a vinyl edition of the excellent Body Issues from New York-based producer Patricia, though label founder Steve ‘Bish’ Bishop told us at the time of the announcement subsequent releases would feature original material from Opal Tapes acts such as HOLOVR, Yves De Mey and Lumigraph.

As Resident Advisor report, it’s Vancouver producer Cloudface (pictured above) who is granted the honour of the second release on Black Opal, with a seven track 12″ due for release in June. The Mood Hut member is no stranger to the Opal Tapes operation, having contributed the horizontal Roland stylings of “Acid Fade” to the label’s pay-what-you-damn-want Cold Holiday digital compilation in late 2012. Since then, David Reynolds’ work as Cloudface has inaugurated Mood Hut’s step into the vinyl market, and featured on the excellent Going Good, who granted his Wyre Drive tape for Nice Up Intl a vinyl release.

There’s little further information on the forthcoming release beyond a tracklisting, a rough release date and the confirmation that the fine artistic direction of SAVWO’s John Powell-Jones is once again included, though we are certainly excited by the news.

Black Opal will release BOP002 by Cloudface in June.
