FaltyDL returns to Swamp81 with Power
The New York-based producer will return for a third release on Loefah’s label.
Although recent years have seen Drew Lustman sign to Ninja Tune for the release of his most recent album, Hardcourage, as well as starting his own record label, Blueberry Records – which has seen impressive releases from Todd Osborn and Luke Vibert among others – there are those who still talk in hushed tones about both his Mean Streets 12″s for Swamp81. Released in 2011 and 2012, both records still stand as some of Lustman’s best work, bringing a more soulful side to the catalogue of a label usually defined by weighty UK techno and bass.
This makes news of a new single for Loefah’s label very exciting indeed. Although not a return to the Mean Streets in name, clips of the two tracks on Power – which can be previewed at the Surus store – suggest a record in the same uplifting spirit as those previous Swamp 81 releases, while the typically gorgeous, US street sign-inspired artwork, suggests a thematic consistency with the Mean Streets records.
Swamp81 will release Power on 12″ vinyl on May 2.
