Planet Mu enter the mind of Traxman again

The footwork stalwart will release a second album through Planet Mu next month. 

Cornelius ‘Traxman’ Ferguson is an elder statesman of footwork, rightly venerated as one of Chicago’s “most versatile and skilled DJs and producers” by Planet Mu; with a discography that dates back to Dancemania’s mid ’90s period, he has also served time as part of the Geto DJz and Ghetto Teknitianz crews alongside fellow footwork figureheads DJ Rashad and DJ Spinn. Having contributed two productions to Planet Mu’s 2010 compilation Bangs & Works Vol. 1, Traxman went on to issue his debut album Da Mind Of Traxman through Mike Paradinas’ label in 2012 with Juno Plus contributor Oli Warwick describing the eighteen track set as “juke coming of age”.

Planet Mu have continued to champion footwork since that album, issuing material from Young Smoke, DJ Clent and perhaps most memorably last year’s debut album from RP Boo, and have now revealed details of a second Traxman long player. Due in May, Da Mind Of Traxman Vol. 2 looks to be no less extensive than Ferguson’s Planet Mu bow with another 18 tracks crammed onto the double LP, though the label claims the album takes a less is more approach. A press release states Da Mind Of Traxman Vol. 2 “creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. Often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources”.

Planet Mu will release Da Mind Of Traxman Vol. 2 by Traxman on May 16.
