Bass Clef lands on Public Information with Bugbranded
The modular aficionado will release a four-track EP on the London-based label next month.
Ralph Cumbers should need little introduction to regular Juno Plus readers for his work as Bass Clef, having topped our list of 2012’s best LPs with the brilliant Reeling Skullways album on Peverelist’s Punch Drunk label. Originally emerging in 2006 with a sound that could be loosely described as dubstep, recent years have seen him explore 4/4 techno, acid and modular synth textures across a number of projects on several labels including his own Magic + Dreams imprint.
Despite the recent annoucement of a record for PAN, Cumbers will swiftly follow that up with the Bugbranded EP for the consistently surprising London label Public Information. Supposedly dedicated to Bristol-based engineer and fellow modular synth expert Tom “BugBrand” Bugs, the press release suggests a direct follow up to the sounds of his last LP on Punch Drunk, apparently “taking the crystalline drive and coarse groove of the acclaimed Reeling Skullways LP into hotwired groove zones.” Those interested in previewing the EP ahead of its release next month can listen to “Faster Than The Speed Of Love” in full below.
Public Information will release the Bugbranded EP on 12″ and digital formats on March 3.
