Awanto 3 to release album on Rush Hour
The Amsterdam house figure’s debut LP will be released across three individual 12″s.
Steven van Hulle has played an important part in the Dutch house and boogie underground for the better part of a decade, releasing a string of releases on Rush Hour as Awanto 3, and Steven De Peven, an alias he adopted for three collaborations with San Proper between 2007 and 2008. He’s also worked alongside Tom Trago (as Alfabet) and Young Marco, while there’s a lot of love for him in London where his tracks have made it on to Craig Richard’s Fabric 58 and DJ Zip’s Fabric 67, as well as providing our 67th podcast last August.
Entitled Opel Mantra, the Awanto 3 album will be released across three separate 12″s throughout February and March, with all tracks to make their way on to a single CD release to be made available at a later date. Rush Hour have described Awanto 3’s music as “humid atmospheres, voodoo rhythms and tropical grooves” with the sounds of Opel Mantra twisting house music into intoxicating new shapes by fusing a myriad of global influences into one surprising whole. The first 12″ release features a remix of the album’s first track “Su What?” by Jameszoo, while further cameos come from Tom Trago and a nine-piece Afrobeat, Ethio-jazz, funk, dub and rock collective local to Amsterdam called Jungle By Night.
