Bask in the suitably unnerving return of Love Cult
Watch a video for “My Boy” taken from the Russian pair’s forthcoming EP for the Night School label.
Petrozavodsk-based duo Anya Kuts and Ivan Afanasyev were first brought to our attention on Fingers Crossed, a quite memorable second album issued on the Public Information last year. That nine track set of decaying, tape-warped doom sounded as if it was dug up from the centre of Chernobyl’s forbidden zone, and was a highlight of the label’s peerless run of releases in 2012. An excellent mix from Love Cult recently aired on the Last Resort NTS show hinted that Kuts and Afanasyev were preparing to return with some new material and it now transpires they will release the four track Know EP through the Night School Records label in January.
A dizzying video for “My Boy” from the forthcoming EP has now emerged, and demonstrates that their self-styled brand of swampy electronics has been expanded upon, with a new sense of rhythmic urgency apparent in the sparse, almost garage-like drum arrangements.
