Absurd Recordings launch Avenue 66 offshoot
Joey Anderson helms the first release from the new offshoot of LA label Absurd Recordings dedicated to “left of centre house and techno”.
The news represents a further expansion of the Absurd Recordings operation following the successful establishment of Acid Test, a 12″ series that has demonstrated there is ample invention left in the lysergic end of the house spectrum with releases from Recondite, Donato Dozzy, Tin Man and most recently Pépé Bradock. Avenue 66 launches next month with rising US house producer Joey Anderson at the helm with the three track Above The Cherry Moon 12″, which features the vocal talents of Ebony Ugo as well as a remix from prolific Ukrainian producer Vakula.
New Jersey native Anderson rose through the Strength Music ranks, gracing several split releases from DJ Qu’s label in the period between 2008-10 before expanding his reach with subsequent material for an impressive number of labels run by his contemporaries. Jus Ed’s Underground Quality, the Deconstruct Music label run by Levon Vincent and Anthony Parasole and most recently Amir Alexander’s Annukai Cartel are amongst those who’ve been graced by Anderson’s deep, considered productions.
A sublime contribution to Levon Vincent’s Fabric mix last year has seemingly opened Anderson’s talents up to a much wider audience; news of this release for Avenue 66 follows on from an excellent 12″ for the fledgling Parisian imprint Latency as well as remixes of Marco Shuttle and October, whilst Anderson is also becoming a regular fixture on the European DJ circuit.
Avenue 66 launches with the Above The Cherry Moon 12″ by Joey Anderson in mid June.
