Rrose returns with Waterfall Variations

The enigmatic Rrose returns with the monolithic sounds of Waterfall Variations, the first Eaux transmission of 2013.

Since debuting on the Sandwell District label in 2011 with the Primary Evidence EP, Rrose’s Herculean brand of techno has offered a new take on the big room style. In the aftermath of Sandwell District electing to “cease regular audio communications,” Rrose established the Eaux label as an outlet to further explore his singular sound as well as his passion for the music of Bob Ostertag. The forthcoming Waterfall Variations EP sees Rrose return to “Waterfall”, a track that featured on the 2011 Sandwell District classic Merchant Of Salt, offering an early, previously unreleased variation entitled “Waterfall (Birth)”, as well as inviting Stroboscopic Artefacts boss Lucy to remix the original with brooding results.

This represents a further development in the relationship between Rrose and Lucy, with the former recently contributing a remix to Dadub’s Preternity EP. Upon listening, there’s every chance “Waterfall (Birth)” will fill many of Europe’s festival speakers this summer, while Lucy’s remix is more suited to the club, toning down the flamboyance of Rrose’s electrifying synths. On the B-side, new track “Shrouds”, sees Rrose merge both the menace of his Sandwell District releases with gnashing spells of harsh electronic manipulations.

London readers might like to know that Rrose rejoins his Sandwell District counterparts Regis and Function this upcoming weekend as part of Fabric’s celebrations for Sandwell District’s forthcoming Fabric 69 mix CD, which includes the Rrose production “Wedge”.

Eaux will release Waterfall Variations by Rrose at the end of April.
