Houndstooth enters the House Of Black Lanterns

Fabric’s new in-house label Houndstooth have revealed full details of their second release, from Dylan Richards’ House Of Black Lanterns project.

Launched by London clubbing institution Fabric last year, Houndstooth looks to be taking a refreshingly diverse approach to its discography. Although its first release featured the impressively crystalline techno of Berlin-based producer Call Super, the label’s second record is a complete stylistic about turn, with an EP from producer Dylan Richards under the House Of Black Lanterns name.

Dylan is best known for his work as King Cannibal, whose dark, industrial edged combination of D&B and dancehall saw a string of releases on Ninja Tune in 2009, but House Of Black Lanterns looks to be something quite different. Described by the label as having a sound with a “Rhythm & Sound sense of texture played through Michael Mann’s smart and highly stylised visuals” delivered “whilst nodding to Trax’s catchy yet bleak dance floor fillers”, Truth and Loss keeps the dark atmospherics of Richards’ previous work but with a subtler, more minimal feel.

Entitled Truth and Loss, the EP comes with two originals and two remixes; of the originals, the title track sees bombastic sci-fi vistas held together with Autonomic style rhythms and footwork-inspired snares, while “Like A Warrior” pairs Juakali’s vocals alongside a dubstep style instrumental with an early Skull Disco vibe. In the remix corner, Fracture reworks the title track into an bleak, dystopian D&B roller, while House Of Black Lanterns remixes a track called “Boy Toy” by the little known producer Ghettozoid, who has previously collaborated with Richards.

Houndstooth will release Truth and Loss by House Of Black Lanterns on March 25.
