Sonar 2013 adds Karenn, Sherwood & Pinch, Gold Panda and more
This year’s Sonar festival has expanded with a wealth of new additions spanning techno, dub and electronica.
As reported previously, 2013 will mark a landmark 20 years of the Barcelona-based festival, which takes place across the weekend of June 13-15; electronic music demi-gods Kraftwerk will headline proceedings with 3D audio-visual performance, while the likes of Lindstrom & Todd Terje, Vatican Shadow and the Pet Shop Boys will also be appearing.
Now the festival has announced a further raft of line-up additions; top of the bill are former Hyperdub artists Darkstar, whose new LP will be arriving on Warp soon, and Mute trio Liars. Key dance focused additions come in the form of Blawan and Pariah’s hardware techno project Karenn, Gold Panda and the pairing of dubstep pioneer Pinch and dub pioneer Adrian Sherwood, whose collaborative work on Survival & Resistance – Sherwood’s first album in 6 years – will be showcased live.
They join a host of other DJs and performers including the divisive Nicolas Jaar, US house star Maceo Plex, LuckyMe’s trap sensation Bauuer and a showcase from Frech label Sound Pellegrino, who will be pitting the Teki Latex and Orgasmic helmed Thermal Team against Matthias Zimmerman, wrapping up contemporary funk, Baltimore beats and bass into one package.
