Anthony Shakir returns with West Side Sessions on Wild Oats
Wild Oats boss Kyle Hall has dusted off, remastered and remixed some long out-of-print material from Detroit techno luminary Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir.
The West Side Sessions 12″+7″ – due for release next month – includes remastered versions of tracks first featured on the super rare M3 Sessions EP from 1997, recorded by Shakir under his Da Sampla moniker. Excitingly, the press release reveals that West Side Sessions also contains unreleased material taken from the same DAT tapes used for the M3 Sessions. The release also sees Hall remixing Shakir for the first time (the track in question being “FRCT BEAT#6”), while two locked grooves round off the package.
West Side Sessions constitutes the first Wild Oats release of 2012, and follows a relatively quiet year for the still remarkably young Hall. In 2011 there were just two releases on Wild Oats; the WO6K 12″ from Hall himself (which featured the excellent “Down!”) and an equally impressive 7″ from Jay Simon.
No word on an exact release date yet, but expect West Side Sessions to arrive via Wild Oats in late February.
