Goldie steels himself for RBMA Culture Clash

Metalheadz legend Goldie has spoken of love for DJ battles ahead of the upcoming Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash event in London, which will see him take on Skream & Benga, Mikey Dread’s Channel One and Soul Jazz.

Goldie will be looking to retain his crown at the event which sees four contending soundsystems representing four branches of London bass music, with the champion is decided by the crowd.

As always, the charismatic D&B legend ripped out a couple of ripper quotes, initially talking down his chances of taking the title  (“you can’t win two years in a row”), but the caution quickly turned to bravado: “you pull out a soul record, I’m gonna pull out a better soul record mate … if you give me five hours I’ll iron you out”. At one stage he also likens himself to a Macbook Air (“very little memory, and my hard drive was corrupted years ago”), before reflecting on spending £50 on dubplates, with a suitcase full of nameless gems stored in his loft.

Goldie’s Metalheadz team on the night will also include Andy C, Shy FX and Storm.

The Red Bull Music Academy is hosting the Culture Clash event, which will take place at the Roundhouse in Camden, London on October 14. Tickets are available from www.roundhouse.org.uk and www.ticketweb.co.uk. Full line up details below:
