DJ Premier speaks out on Guru

With the internet awash with rumours surrounding Guru’s final wishes before he died of cancer last week, the GangStarr man’s former partner DJ Premier has spoken of the final time he saw him.

Shortly after Guru’s death last Monday, aged 43, his most recent producer Solar issued a letter which included an angry rant against DJ Premier, and suggested it had come from Guru himself.

However, the rapper’s family have since said that Guru could not have written or dictated a letter at the time Solar suggested, because he had been in a come since suffering a heart attack in February.

Speaking on his radio show, Premier said he visited Guru in hospital earlier this year. “When I saw Guru it really fucked me up,” he said. “I wore a GangStarr shirt first of all; just for the energy and so he knew that that’s forever with us. And that includes everyone that came before me; I know every one of them… It was so ill [because] of what I was hearing of him waking up, writing, and tweeting and all that stuff. There was no way. He looked so gone”.
