Featured DJ Chart: Silicone Soul
Kicking off with Wolf + Lamb label boss Zev’s “Forget The World”, Silicone Soul bring Juno Plus an eclectic Top Ten of their current favourite tracks. Having long been an integral part of the Soma Records family run by Slam, the Glaswegian duo have been running their own Darkroom Dubs label which they are about to release their second compilation from.
1. Zev – Forget The World – Wolf + Lamb
I could have chosen any number of recent Wolf + Lamb releases. They are really bringing something fun and fresh to the party and we love that. This is a real spine tingler and harks back to that classic Robert Owens – “I’ll Be Your Friend” era… beautiful.
2. Guillaume & The Couto Dumonts – The Pussy Shepherd – Musique Risquee
Two standout cuts on the EP, the title track and “Raw”. “The Pussy Shepherd” is all groove and funk. He’s sampled some of Isaac Hayes talking at the start of “By The Time I Get To Phoenix” from Hot Buttered Soul, so it’s definitely a winner.
3. Glimpse – If I Was Your Girl (Beats mix) – Crosstown Rebels
A big Soul favourite for a while now, just great house music and always goes down really well – has that early NYC Wild Pitchy spirit. Go on!
4. Vlad Caia – Chango – Horizontal
Another one I can’t stop playing, great vibe, loose as fuck, grooving with wicked percussion, perfecto. He’s working on an EP for Darkroom Dubs, looking forward to it!
5. Philip Arruda – Life Of An Alley Cat – Roots & Wings
Lovely techy goodness – head down eyes closed, you know how it is….
6. 6th Borough Project – Miss World – Delusions Of Grandeur
It’s a cracking record and I just can’t stop playing it – a wonderful marriage of disco groove, one for the good times!
7. Dacido & Hirte – Cool – Gastspiel
There’s a really great feel to the this track – solid groove , trippy with that sweet low end funk , one you never become tired of.
8. Chopstick & Till Von Sein – Bachkippe – Suol
I love this track, great funked up guitar line and a real freaked out break, another permanent resident in the crate!
It’s a great label too, always something tasty to be found there.
9. Vincent Casanova – We Live On Ships – Mina
One of my favourite labels and they never fail to impress with their lush introspective releases and general stoic deepness. This one has a real edginess about it though and the tripped out arpeggios are wonderful.
10. Silicone Soul – Dogs Of Les Ilhes – Soma
The climax of our last album, it’s not coming out as a single sadly, but there’s a fantastic Kollektiv Turmstrasse Mix of it coming out as part of our next EP “Silicone Soul Remixed” at the end of May…
