Mince Glace (12" + MP3 download code)
Cat: BLACKEST 037. Rel: 12 Dec 14
  1. Game Is Up
  2. Visions Of The Night
  3. Emboldened
  4. Loathing & Fear In December
  5. Refugees
  6. Fireball
Review: Carla Dal Forno and Tarquin Manek together are Tarcar and they're here to sign off another winner of a year from the now cult-like Blackest Ever Black label. There isn't much that BEB haven't deserved a medal for, and they have yet again amazed us with their ludicrously on-point artistic repertoire! Mince Glace is a true thing of beauty, an album which doesn't give a damn about genres or styles, but instead travels the treacherous paths between noise, drone, dub and pretty much any other genre of music! In our opinion, the nuttiest cit on here has to be "Emboldened" for it wavy jazz edge and far-out melodies, but be sure to also check out "Fireball" for a real spin down the wormhole. Lovely stuff from both label and artists. Don't miss it.

  4. Blood On The Controls (Whok mix #2)
Review: For those who don't know, Trensmat is not a rip-off of Detroit's Transmat, but rather, Ireland's answer to labels such as Blackest Ever Black and Hospital Productions. If you check their discography, there's plenty of hidden gems to uncover. On this record, the enigmatic Valved receives a furious remix treatment from two Juno HQ favourites. "Tipping Point" is downright disfigured by the incorrigible AnD duo - not once but twice: the first remix offers a cascade of fuzzy, distorted kicks and incessant drone loops, while the second removes all traces of a beat and delves deep into the cogs of the machines. On the flip, "Blood On The Controls" is rewired twice by Whirling House of Knives. The first is a chest-bursting monster from the depths of the drum machines, while the second is a slice sparse and experimental neo-funk with an otherworldly succession of popping kicks and crystal-like background atmospherics. TIP!

Cat: K 003. Rel: 27 Sep 16
  1. Volte Face - "The Otherwise Central Zone" (7:13)
  2. 3.14 - "Ironas" (5:25)
Review: KAOS London affiliated label Khemia presents the sounds as heard at their wild and legendary parties on their second release, which follows up great previous editions featuring the links of In Aeternam Vale, Rrose and Orphx. On the A side its BleeD main man Volte Face (following up some great collaborations with Daniel Avery as Rote) with the pummelling hypnotic techno journey "An Otherwise Central Zone". On the flip, it's Greek producer in Berlin, the Pi Electronics and Modal Analysis affiliated 3.14 with the savage noise electronics of "Ironas" which will appeal to fans of modern post punk re-interpretations by Broken English Club or Ugandan Methods.

  4. L'enigmatic Martell De Ned Ludd (1:43)
  5. 121 Xemeneies (feat Hugo Mas) (7:29)
  6. Aquesta Rave Es Una Merda (5:00)
Review: We Are Not Brothers are an electronic music band from the post-industrial, anarchist and revolutionary town of Alcoi, Pais Valencia - formed in 2006. Comprised of Blai Antoni Vano, Damia Llorens Pico, Francisco Sancho Blanquer and Rafeta, this is (like the name suggests) their third full length release. They borrow respectfully from fellow Spanish legends like Geometrico Esplendor (who they've supported live: as heard on opening cut "La Conoci En Un Concierto De Esplendor Geometrico" while sounding like contemporaries such as The Horrorist or Vatican Shadow. It's a fairly fierce and abrasive affair, featuring layers of contorted and textured greyscale electronics, plus violent vocal styles. Just check some of the titles - "Europe Is Dead" a pummeling riot ready anthem featuring Spanish scene heroine Ana Curra) or the seething "121 Xemeneies" (feat Hugo Mas).

  3. Message (3:29)
  4. Liberation (6:24)
Review: Zombies Under Stress is a one-man project that dates back to the mid 1980s. Fanatism & Hysteria is the outfit's main LP, and it's still considered one of the defining works of the whole EBM era, surpassing even the likes of Nitzer Ebb in the minds of certain diggers. Berlin's Mannequin is the perfect place to have some of its tunes reissued, and "Stalin" is the one of the tunes from that original LP that still sounds so damn fresh to this day thanks to that raw, distorted, pseudo-acid bassline conquering its full 5+ minutes; the remix from Seven Sisters Of Putin offers a straighter, more club-friendly version. "Message" is from 1996, and its ominous groove hasn't aged a day since, whereas 1985's "Liberation" is some straight up noise cacophony for those feeling a little satanic. Another winner from Mannequin - essential!

Review: Hiroshima-based producer Paul T Kirk is hardly prolific, but has nevertheless managed to release a string of fine albums over the last 14 years. Short Fuse is his first set for alt.vinyl and sees him expand on the dusty, otherworldly industrial, illbient and dark IDM experiments of his 2015 full-length, Sometime, Never. Kirk is a talented sound designer, capable of crafting fascinating, fully-formed tracks that rise above a sound soup built on manipulated field recordings, shortwave radio chatter and crackling electronic distortion. It's a formula that not only guarantees atmospheric listening, but also a string of fine tracks that veer from fuzzy industrial intensity to ghostly ambient bliss.

Review: Alesia Cosmos were a collective of musicians led by Bruno de Chenerilles (and several other collaborators) formed in the early '80s in Strasbourg. Under the influence of William Burroughs, John Cage, Pierre Henry and others, de Chenerilles developed tape music. By 1982, he appeared for the first time under the name Alesia Cosmos Furi Show. This experimental show led to a music project based on his and close collaborator Pascal Holtzer's compositions, performed with other musicians in the beginning of 1983. The Exclusivo! LP was the group's debut album recorded and was self-released in 1983. de Chenerilles and Holtzer's improvisations with the group brought forth more ideas and the album was recorded in a few days. The result was a mixing of electronic music, field recordings, North African and Asian percussion, electric guitars and voices, compositions and free improvisations. All four musicians took turns singing onomatopoeic phrases and backing vocals, even sometimes in an unknown language, a sort of mixed bag between Breton and Japanese.

  4. Sonique/Grace/Gouryella/Roger Sanchez/Eric Prydz (13:21)
Review: We've been waiting for this beauty to arrive since we first heard the news of its vinyl reissue through The Death Of Rave. Theo Burt's Summer Mix is possibly one of the most original and daring electronic LP's of the last five years. Using something called a Fourier transform, Burt mutated commercial dance hits into minimal, tripping and subby 4/4 sketches. We've been told this works by stripping 50% of the content and remoulding it by placing similar tones next to each other. Music by the likes of Deadmau5, Paul Van Dyk, Eric Prydz and even Swedish House Mafia is all in there but torn apart and sculpted into something more similar to the Chain Reaction output thanks to the long flurries of delay. This is a special album for the special kind of ear. Moreover, it's what the underground represents: musical freedom and total experimentation.
