Review: LA Club Resource's Innsyter helps carry Contort Yourself into this new realm of dedicated solo releases from contemporary artists (their previous form was to split releases between archival and new tracks). The snarling, industrial palette is much the same, and the years of origin are as ambiguous here as they've ever been on the label, making Innsyter the perfect addition to the catalogue. From acid-dipped synth pop to nightmarish wave contortions, this record is certainly not for the faint of heart, but if you already love the dark and deadly world of Contort Yourself then this brilliantly-realised, consistently inventive record can't fail to hit the spot.

  1. Collage (3:25)
  2. Never Release The Tension (5:44)
  3. Ten Years (10:06)
Review: Whatever Makes You Feel Safe is a collaboration between Canadian producer and singer Marie Davidson and Berlin based Ukrainian sound designer Invisible Church. They met in Montreal during Red Bull Music Academy festival and shared the idea of exploring the concept of feeling safe both on a personal level and as a part of society. Quite different from what you'd usually associate with Davidson but still worthy of your attention all the same. Beginning on the A side with "Collage" featuring some chilling drone experiments over textural sound design and field recordings which allow Davidson's haunting vocals to carry the track further into the void. Sounds like a cross between OAKE and Lustmord. Next up "Never Release The Tension" delves further into pitch black territory on this contorted downbeat industrial thriller. Finally on the flip, we've got an epic 10 minutes of haunting esoterica in the form of "Ten Years" and features Theo Parrish on cymbals! The label recommends it as for fans the late Mika Vainio, Black Rain, CTI, and the Bladerunner OST. Pretty on point, if we do say so ourselves!

  3. Belleville (Ron Morelli & Svengalisghost remix)
  4. Night With Potential (Vereker remix)
Review: The JBLA outfit finally land on Desire with a supremely awaited EP that's shimmering with gritty hardware flair and squelching noise trickery. The title track is a rampant, percussion-driven, post-punk tool and is hotly rewired by none other than LIES affiliates, Ron Morelli and Svengalisghost, who turn in a twisted, metallic version of the original - oscillating atmospherics and a minimalistic kick-hat form an alluring bundle of a groove. "Night With Potential" is a lo-fi kinda tune, with aqueous melodies and hazy landscapes. Our favourite LIES protege, Vereker goes in for the total kill on the remix, creating a nasty, cacophonous and industrial time-bomb for the end of days - this guys has plenty of tricks up his sleeve, apparently. A cop-on-site kinda EP, really...

  6. Clean Crash (4:43)
Review: In advance of release, Diagonal and Elon Katz have been particularly mysterious when it comes to the contents of The Human Pet. Instead of the usual press release, they simply emailed journalists a bizarre list of "care instructions" for said mythical companion. Katz, who rose to prominence as part of Streetwalker and White Car, is something of a bombastic, electronic eccentric, and The Human Pet is ostensibly a pop album dragged through several hedges backwards. Expect impassioned, stylized vocals, twisted boogie synths, scattergun electronics, bizarre beats, breakcore style cut-up madness, and crusty special effects. Oh, and discernible nods to EBM, industrial and Autechre.

Review: Blackest Ever Black have instinctively steered towards the industrio-noise domain over the last few years, but the Young Echo crew of Bristolians Vessel - a Juno HQ favourite - El Kid and Jabu team up for a raucous excursion into deeper, bassier territories. This isn't dub music per se; it's more an introspective into the powers of the low-end...All geared up for soundsystem destruction, of course. Seriously though, these are some heavy cuts which mark both the development of a fascinating collaboration and a welcomed breath of fresh air from a label which usually only likes to breathe noxious fumes.

  1. Never Lose Your Shadow
  2. Public Fun
  3. LD 60
  4. Magic Words Command
Review: The combination of Richard H. Kirk and Minimal Wave was never going to disappoint, but the four tracks on this Never Lose Your Shadow 12" are still very special! Digging deep through the archives of the Cabaret Voltaire front man, Veronica Vasicka presents a quartet of solo recordings that have never been committed to wax before. The highlight is undoubtedly the A Side title track, a lolloping ten minute track of hypnotic industrial action made all the more memorable by Kirk's acerbic intonations about "the blind leading the blind". If you've caught a Vasicka DJ set recently you will have probably lost yourself to these ten minutes. On the flip are three tracks recorded in the same late '70s period which are distinctly more experimental in tone and just as vital.

  1. Chats With Lucy (5:56)
  2. Christian Rock Concert (5:40)
  3. Do You Want To Crash? (4:33)
  4. Pain Management Resource (8:37)
Review: Helms's Alter label is the latest to be seduced by the Primitive Languages of New York-based Nick Klein, whose brash industrialisms have previously featured on Entro Senestre's BANK, German labels MMODEMM and Unknown Precept and cult US tape crew Ascetic House. The Lonesome Dealer features some wonderfully evocative track titles ("Christian Rock Concert" and "Pain Resource Management") and continues Klein's grotty amalgamation of techno rhythms with the powerful sonic impact of noise traditions. If you have been enjoying the output of Beau Wanzer or Maoupa Mazzocchetti recently you should certainly check this 12" out! The Cabaret Voltaire gone Reggaeton of lead track "Chats with Lucy" and the deranged abstraction of B-side opener "Do You Want To Crash?" are particular highlights.

BNK007 (limited hand-stamped 7")
Cat: BNK 007. Rel: 10 Aug 16
  1. Track 1 (3:20)
  2. Track 2 (4:06)
Review: Entro Senestre's BANK label is back this time with a couple of the scene's favourite analogue noise merchants: local sonic terrorist Nick Klein (Primitive Languages/Alter) and Brussels mutant EBM pusher Maoupa Mazzocchetti (PRR! PRR!/Mannequin) with a collaboration that is as rusty and grungy as you could certainly imagine. On the A side, the untitled first offering is a snapshot of slow burning proto techno in reductionist yet gutsy fashion, the tom drums in this one are fierce. On the B side we've got the (probably inadvertently) early Steve Bicknell sounding untitled cut with pummels away in loopy and hypnotic fashion and it's all about the squealing monosynth lead which really packs a punch.

  3. Enter Mars (8:25)
  4. Circle Of Power (4:49)
Review: Kluentah, one half of Fallbeil, has brought gutter-dwelling electronics to labels like V I S, New York Haunted, Return To Disorder, Mannequin and Sisters before now, so there's no doubt in the clout this particular nightcrawler possesses. On this latest release for new label Zement the mood is as sinister as you would hope, leading in with the sleazy electro noir of "The Return" before slipping into the mucky industrial thump of "Higher Level." "Enter Mars" is a snarling acid stomper engineered to nail you to the spot in the toughest of ways, and "Circle Of Power" ends proceedings on an ominous, tracky note for the post-apocalyptic party people to get all end-of-days to.

  1. Invoke (5:04)
  2. Meld (6:01)
  3. Meld (Rrose remix) (7:41)
  4. Searching In Circles (3:37)
Review: The second release from Dublin based label Eotrax comes from nomadic producer Lair. With a diverse background that includes singing classical and traditional material, the Irish sound artist has expanded her artistic approach into a diverse multi-disciplinary approach. The music has elements of mysticism, sacred geometry and energy: sound with intention. A side tracks "Invoke" and "Meld" respectively utilise the human voice to create mesmerising and esoteric drones that are chilling as much as they are beautiful. Assisted by pads and textures, likely created by digital synthesis that further add to the mysterious and evocative sound environment. On the flip, hypnotic techno heroine Rrose delivers the goods as always with her singular sound, taking you deep into the darklands of techno. Label boss Eomac; who many of you may now as one half of duo Lakker, has stated that this release is a bold move for the label, as it moves away from the dancefloor and into more diverse and experimental fields. Sounds promising indeed and we cannot wait for what is in store next.

Review: Alongside the Great Circles label and a single release for The Trilogy Tapes, Philadelphia duo _moonraker's output has also come through the _bruxist platform. The _moonraker duo's return to the label comes in the form of the five-track Refracuity EP that comes full of the foggy, broken electronica we've come to expect from the Philadelphia-based experimental electronics scene, and each production here is as confusing, unhinged and murky as the next - the haunted glow, tubular phase action and mechanical repetition of "IIIII" is a particular highlight.

  4. Voltage#3 (Vapauteen remix)
Review: Modal Analysis continues its unrelenting march towards the darkest territory in the electro landscape with this deadly 12" from Morah, which wastes no time in laying waste to the good vibes with the sinister stomp of "Voltage#1". The second track pumps up the rhythm section and lays down a sidewinder of a synth line that smacks of understated rave perfection, and it's that same synth that courses through the marginally more hypnotic "Voltage#3". Vapauteen offers up a remix of "Voltage#3" that slows the original right down and works a kind of mechanical tropicalia into the bones of the original.

  1. I Saw, Strained Her Eyes Peering Into The Gloom
  2. Dance When Lights Off
  3. Against Your Beloved
  4. One Shade The Less, One Ray The More
Review: Helena Hauff's Return To Disorder label plunges once more into the grimy underworld of electro and wave music, this time guided by dungeon dweller Morah who debuted on the label in 2015 and has since gone on to great things via Lux Rec, Berceuse Heroique, brokntoys and more. "I Saw, Strained Her Eyes Peering Into The Gloom" is a bittersweet dance with distortion as disheveled as it is catchy, while "Dance When Lights Off" pushes even further into the red with scintillating results. "Against Your Beloved" sounds positively shimmering by comparison, even if on its own it's still a truly dirty slice of jacked up electro. "One Shade The Less, One Ray The More" is a strong closing bout that draws from a similar sound bank and applies it to a more techno-minded structure.

Review: Lucerne based Prasens Editionen was founded in 2011 to give home to Zweikommasieben Magazin. Ever since, a bunch of magazines, books, zines, records, tapes and oddities have been published. After digging deep into their vast archive, they found two gems that are particularly striking: a live recording from a collaborative project (on Side A) in the form of the the textural industrial/noise journey by Nilbog entitled "Liverecording 02/11/16". On the flip Mr Pena's "TMC" (The Markt Chronicles) is a three minute gabba onslught. Mr. Pena lets loose, aiming at hardcore dancefloors while balancing between fight-or-flight terror and pacifying joy. Edition of 300.

Review: Continuing their uncompromising fusions of artists new and old, Contort Yourself return with a punishing array of industrial thuggery from hardware manipulators you wouldn't take home to your mother. Novacom were last seen on Slumdiscs back in 2014 and here bring a fast and gnarly rhythmic tryst to bear before JK Flesh do their own snagging dance with oppressive synths and drums twirling into a heavyweight whole. French brutalists Le Syndicat then dominate the B-side with their confrontational bastardisation of techno and industrial, making the perfect source material for Ekman to get nasty with on his remix of "Maximalist".

Review: Harem is the fourth release for Old Apparatus on their own Sullen Tone imprint, and the third to come from an individual member of the collective. This time it's the turn of Harem, who also lends their name to the release and provides one of the label's most atmospheric releases to date. "Sunday Service" places spectral female vocals in a desolate soundscape, while "Mernom" continues the funereal atmospherics with lumbering beats and acoustic instrumentation placed within a vast echo chamber. "Dourado" offers the most propulsive cut of the EP, with galloping drums and deep subs providing a steampunk take on classic dubstep, leaving "Octafish" to round off another superlative EP with a brooding combination of scorched strings and distant, simmering percussion.

Review: Back in December, Genevieve Pasquier quietly returned to action after six years by contributing a remix of the previously unheard "Fairy Tale" to Frigio's The Midas Touch EP. The original version of that song takes pride of place on Reflection, alongside three other clandestine trips into industrial pop territory. It's all deliciously dark and moody stuff, with metallic drum machine percussion, fuzzy synth lines and the artist's own atmospheric vocals taking centre stage. We're particularly enjoying the buzzing guitars, low-slung groove and Nine Inch Nails attitude of "Bouge!", though the decidedly weird, crackly and sparse "Tu Es Le Star" is similarly impressive.

  1. Kareem - "Just When You Thought It Was Over"
  2. Perc - "Volley"
Review: Ali Wells's Perc Trax has done incredibly well over the years, and in fact, this latest EP (the third in the series) marks the label's ten year anniversary! Patrick Sottrop aka Kareem drops "Just When You Thought It Was Over" on the A-side, unleashing a militant and subtly dubbed-out warhead for the peak time hours, while Wells himself touches down as Perc with the stormy, wide-eyed sound sculpture that is "Volley". Surprisingly, the kick drum - a menacing pound to the head - only pops up well into the track, leaving space for all other sorts of atmospherics and distortion to surface. Excellent, as per usual.
